PS2 HDD ATAD.IRX Driver Modification
Introduction:
Based around the research of our very own PHSyKoTiK, we were able to patch the ATAD.IRX HDD driver file in both foreign (import) and domestic software that originally utilized the official PS2 hard disk drive... so it is NO LONGER necessary!
However, before getting too excited be aware that modifying the ATAD.IRX driver file will allow you to use a NON-$ONY drive only after it has been properly formatted.
For those wanting to use the PPF file included:
If you do NOT wish to learn how this ATAD.IRX driver modification is done and simply want to patch your iSO with it, we have included the PPF-O-MATiC patcher (v2.0) and our ATAD_IRX.PPF patch file. Simply extract your ATAD.IRX file from your iSO, and use the patcher to select the included PPF patch and click Apply to patch it. You may receive this prompt when doing so as you are not patching a BIN file, but just ignore it and click Ja to continue with the patching and you’ll be all set!

With that being noted, to modify your ATAD.IRX driver file simply open up WinHex (http://www.winhex.com) or a similar Hex Editor and select Search -> Find Hex Values and change EACH occurrence to the following hex values by overwriting them:
Search for: D0FFBD2700210400FFFF8430 and change to 211000000800E00300000000 upon EACH occurrence throughout your ATAD.IRX file and then SAVE it.
To give you an idea on the number of occurrences, the ATAD.IRX file I am searching through has 6 occurrences of D0FFBD2700210400FFFF8430... so I changed all 6 to 211000000800E00300000000, and then replaced the “modified” ATAD.IRX driver file in my iSO before burning it to disc. The number of occurrences WILL vary though with different software iSO files, so be aware to search it thoroughly to find them all before saving and burning back to disc
