Q: What is EvoX (Evolution-X)?
A: EvoX is a replacement dashboard for the Xbox console. Features include: Built-in FTP server, configurable menu system, flash bios utility, upgrade the Xbox hard drive and format/partition it easily, create game backups, and much more (check out the Releases section). *EvoX can only run on Xboxes that have been modified to run unsigned code.

Q: Where can I download EvoX?
A: You can't (legally). The binaries of EvoX have been compiled with a M$ Xbox Development Kit, which you're not authorized to use it if you're not licensed to do so. EvoX's code is not signed by M$ and is in no way affiliated with M$. So obviously we can't offer any direct downloads to the EvoX binaries -- you're going to have to find them yourself. A good place to start searching is www.Xbins.org. ;)
Also, you most likely will be banned from the Forums and IRC chat if you ask for downloads.

Q: How do I install EvoX?
A: After you've uncompressed the files, you'll need to open and edit the evox.ini file to best fit your needs. After you're done configuring the settings you'll need to burn EvoX to a CD-RW or copy it over to the C: partition on your Xbox HD.

Q: What is IGR and what does it do?
A: IGR means "In Game Reset" and when turned on it will allow you to reset your Xbox during game play by pressing the L-Trigger, R-Trigger, Back, and Start all at once.

Q: What is the default user/password for the FTP server?
A: xbox/xbox

Q: I can't connect to my Xbox with my FTP client -- why not?
A: You need to configure the IP settings in your evox.ini. If you are using Static IP, make sure to set the default gateway of your LAN. If you are using DHCP/ICS/WinRoute, change "Use Static IP:" to "No" and make sure your gateway IP address for your LAN is correct.

Q: Where do I put the Skin and Bios folder?
A: You put those in the C: partition along with EvoX.

Q: How do I change my EvoX Skin?
A: In Evox, go to System Utils and you'll see "Skins". Here you'll find a list of different skins you can activate to change the look of EvoX.

Q: So where can I find these "Settings" at?
A: In EvoX, go to System Utils and you'll see "Settings". In Setting you'll be able to see various information about your Xbox and you'll be able to change your settings.

Q: What does "Backup" do? (under System Utils)
A: This makes a backup of your Serial EEPROM, Onboard Bios, HDD Password, and HDD Config Sector. These will be placed in the Backup folder on your Xbox's C: partition.

Q: Why aren't my setting being saved after I edit them in System Utils -> Settings?
A: You need to go all the way down to the bottom of the Settings screen and choose "Save and Exit". This will change your settings in the evox.ini file.

Q: My EvoX Menu options are not appearing after I change them in my evox.ini and/or my items are not showing up in EvoX menus after sending them to the Xbox HD -- why?
A: You need to shutdown your Xbox completely and then boot it back up.

Q: Why do some of my games freeze or load incorrectly when I launch them using EvoX?
A: You may need to disable all 3 IGR (In Game Reset) options in Settings -- you also may be trying to load a bad "backup".

Q: Can I backup my games with EvoX?
A: Yes, you can FTP into your Xbox with EvoX and copy the contents of the D: to your PC. *However, there are now more efficient ways to do this with other applications -- we recommend boXplorer and Xcommander.

Q: What are RD Tools?
A: This is for remote debugging. If you don't know what this is... leave it alone.

Q: Can I take a screenshot of my EvoX Dashboard?
A: Yes, simple press the black button on your controller and the screenshot will be saved as "screendump.bmp" on your Xbox's E: partition.

Q: Do I need to use the latest EvoX bios in order for EvoX to work?
A: No, you can use an older bios or any other bios that boots unsigned code.

Q: After I transfer EvoX to my HD, it doesn't load (I still get the M$ Dash) -- why?
A: You need to rename the default.xbe to "xboxdash.xbe" before using it as the default dashboard on your Xbox. Also, you should rename your original xboxdash.xbe to msxboxdash.xbe so you don't overwrite your MS dash (and don't forget to edit your evox.ini so MS Dash is linked to "msxboxdash.xbe".* Also, check your bios information as you might be able to rename it to evoxdash.bin (this will allow you to boot your M$ dash (xboxdash.xbe) incase you disable your modchip).

Q: I still need help -- what now?
A: There is a good chance the answer to your problem can be found at the following places: The Guides section of this site, the site's Forums, or the EvoX IRC channel #EvolutionX. However, we do strongly suggest you visit www.Xbox-Scene.com since they have tons of tutorials related to EvoX on their site -- they also have very helpful and very active forums.

Q: I have an idea or suggestion for EvoX -- who should I contact?
A: Go to our Forums -- there is an area for this. :)

Q: I know for a fact I've found a Bug in EvoX -- how can report it?
A: Go to our Forums -- there is an area for Bug Reports.

Q: Who are the EvoX developers?
A: They've chosen to stay anonymous.

Q: How can I contact EvoX?
A: You can reach the EvoX IRC/Web team on IRC at #EvolutionX. Also, the developers have been known to lurk around the Forums. ;)
