I take a final hit of hash, sucking down chunks of hot resin down my 
throat as I draw from the screenless pipe.   

Crystal dragons of smoke accelerate before my eyes, melting in the air. 

Now I am at peace.  The world, which now my room, orbits around me in my 
command center. 

I go outside to the balcony, piss in the alley a floor below, and return,  
lighting a cigarette. 

The needs my body has informed me of are now rested.

     Words splatter upon my brain, seeking rest on the display before me. 
My thought processes machinegunning me ideas and concepts, conceptual ideas, 
and ideas about concepts.The stream of information decrypts itself and 
becomes a query about the way society had, recently, become nothing but a 
set of subliminal images and instinctual knowledge about prices and which 
kind of toothpaste is best and so on.   

     The light coming from the screen hits me as a grid of letters and 
symbols twisting and merging into symbolic patterns.  I hear the whole 
fucking Cogswell's Cogsfactory in operation, cogs turning and clocks 
ticking. 

.WHAT  WHY  HOW  WHO  AND  WHEN. 
      
     Although the actual logistics of the situation are far from known, it 
was believed that the tactics relied on by the 'e-control liberation front' 
had failed.  The plan to capture the world's principle cities by 
remote-control 'mole people' robots was not implemented at all, causing 
relief amongst 'senators' world-wide. 

     Two years later, a file titled 'fuckingFIST.txt', with a date 9/25/96  
appeared on over 8,000,000 networked government and corporate computers  
simultaneously. The file contained only one byte, ASCII-7 code 0.  The 'null'  
character. 

     That night at midnight, 00:00:00 7/08/21, 'mole people' robots reached 
the surface and destroyed every major city not controlled by the ECLF.
