. . . : ; The "WHERE WERE YOU?" Notice

I didn't die, no. God forbid if that ever happened. Where would you be
without me? Bored and listless. No, instead of dying, I opted to focus
on a new software project which had a deadline (now dissipated). The
project has kinda been put on hiatus due to reality distortion, but it's
still around on SourceForge somewhere if you're investigative enough to
hunt it down.

. . . : ; The "LOT OF UPDATES, RIGHT?" Notice

You might assume (and wrongly, I may add), that because two months went
by since the last Chico's Groove, that there would be a lot of new stuff
to speak of. Unfortunately, this isn't the case. Lots of stuff has been
happening - some of which makes me intensely happy, some which leave bad
chinese feelings in my tummy. Nothing to puke up, just that unsettling
"did they cum sum yung gai?". Either way, nothing is ready for
prime time, which is remotely upsetting.

. . . : ; ANNOUNCEMENTS and roil, toil...

NEW DEVIL SHAT (#SixtyNine): Morbus isn't here. He's the flippant editor
of this piece of slack rag, and he doesn't even bother to write an
article? Bah! What a horrible travesty, 'tis, relying on quality content
from Rown Garnbii (Assholic, Part III) and Amanda Bryant (who's first
article brought critical acclaim). Perhaps the number of the issue has
sent him into hiding, cowering to the darkest corner of a plastic bag?
Or perhaps he's too busy performing the metaphor? Bah again, dare you!

MORE FUN FOR HORROR: More than 150 new downloads were added to The
Horror Section these past couple of months, primarily comprising new
unknowns, and a new subsection of "Movie Media" innocently labeled
"Singles". Along with the Atomz.com search capability, it's quickly
becoming a rather large repository of random horror images, anally
catalogued (does that make sense? Barely? Good.) Also added the "rules"
concerning how we name the image filenames (borrrinnnngg!).

NEW GHOSTSITES (#41): The newest issue of Ghost Sites was fittingly
released this Halloween (with a new one coming soon, btw) and features
such wonders as France's World Cup, Netscrap, Canadian Beer, and Open
Roads. Wonderful stuff, as always, proving that bad content will always
last longer in the minds of net viewers.

MINOR CHANGES ABOUND: Tons of minor changes all over the place, as minor
changes fit nicely into the hectic schedule that I've been faced with.
The About section was cleaned up with tons of minor changes, the Disobey
News Network was transitioned over into the standard Disobey main page
design (as it makes more sense that way), three sections (the main page,
About, and DNN) were converted over to XHTML, making them valid XML
documents, and lots of new email added to Devil Shat (one to Twenty
Eight, one to Forty Five, one to Fifty Four, one to Fifty Seven, two to
Fifty Nine, one to Sixty, three to Sixty Two, three to Sixty Four, two
to Sixty Five and two added to the generic email page). Hopefully,
something better nice month.

. . . : ; EVERYTHING else and bubble and boil.

MOZILLA LOVE: Now that Mozilla is getting more and more stable, I've
been experiencing deep love with the new nightly builds. Reading tons of
information on developing for it, as well as skinning, XUL, sidebar fun,
and oh so much more. If you hate Netscape 6 (as well you should), then
you should give Mozilla a try - no ads, much faster, and less hungry.
It's over there at mozilla.org. Of course, rereading this paragraph
severely inhibits a "uhhh, what are you talking about?", but that's why
the Groove is mine, not yours ("bad llama!").

NEW MOVIES: Welp, two months have gone by since I last reported to ya,
so be prepared for a tidal wave of new crap that outshines poop: DON'T
LOOK IN THE ATTIC, NIGHT TRAIN TO TERROR, DRIVE-IN MASSACRE, THE TERROR
WITHIN< BEYOND DARKNESS, SHOCKER, SLUGS, SCARED STIFF, SILENT MADNESS,
DEMONS 2, NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, FOREVER EVIL, OFFERINGS, HONEYMOON
HORROR, PRIMAL RAGE, SCANNERS III: THE TAKEDOWN, CURSE II: THE BITE,
WEREWOLF, MANIAC COP, THE FIRST POWER, CAT PEOPLE, COCCOON 2 (don't
ask), DARK SIDE OF MIDNIGHT and NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 1, 2, 4 and 5.
And no, I've barely had a chance to watch any of them. Sigh.

NEW BOOKS: I've been wanting to apply myself a little more purposefully
to my coding projects, so due to a friend's recommendation, I now own
the following books published by Microsoft Press and written by Steve
McConnell: CODE COMPLETE, RAPID DEVELOPMENT, and SOFTWARE PROJECT
SURVIVAL GUIDE. I'm halfway through CODE COMPLETE, and I'd definitely
recommend that to any coder.

. . . : ; BLAHBLAHS OF THE WEEK: ( october 13th - december 14th )

[Story-the-Week]-= You Know You're Old When...
---... you wax poetic about CD-R prices. I remember buying a 2x
---CD-R drive years and years ago for $500 - a Sony clone that ran
---on Mac and PC with SCSI port. This was at a time when blank
---CDs ran about $6 a pop (on sale). It was wonderful wasting about
---$50 that first month, as I messed up CD after CD. Where'd this
---story come from? Had to buy new CDs earlier this month, and now
---you can grab 50 of them for $25. Ah, the days. Had BBS nostalgia
---recently too. Anyone remember Fear Factory? I used to listen to
---them all the time when I was doing ANSI art and QBASIC programming.
---Sigh. Ah, the days, the days.
