The Chaos Case

Imagine please. It`s Eastern 06, Breakpoint, party time. Clary, Fury
and the other Drifters members were trying their best in order to get
their demo running. What ever they`ve hacked into the assembler, the
animations that they had prepared in hard work previously, were still
fucked up because the miggy always crashed. StingRay and other coders
investigated around six hours in the night from Friday to Saturday and
made the Drifters family happy, because all bugs were finally removed.
Being asked some days before in the irc, Clary always replied:

"Please, better don`t ask me about the demo, nothing is sure right now."

Saturday. Everything was fine or at least it seemed so and therefore they
gave their entry to the orgas. Suddenly shortly afterwards, Chaos of
ex-Sanity and now Farbrausch, the new main organizer of the Amiga compos
did show up at the table row of Drifters and told Clary and the others:

"Okay, this year we`re going to accept your entry, but next year it will be
disqualified for sure."

Turned around and went away before anybody of Drifters had a chance to
reply. You know, people from the southern part of Europe are very emotional.
And in this case it`s quite understandable. They were so happy that finally
they did manage to finish their production and then this. Clary was almost
falling in tears, not understanding how unsentimental and unsocial one could
be. She loved being in the Amiga Scene because for her it always did mean
that friendship, respect and a good relation between each others was just
natural. She asked herself if it`s still worth doing demos for people who
are so arrogant and unfriendly. And hell, it`s not only Chaos, don`t get
me wrong, please. StingRay was sitting beside her, not being surprised
about this statement. As he`s a coder since a long time, he knows about
the behaviour of this person.

Both, Clary and Digiman asked around if anybody could help in this case and
therefore StingRay contacted another german organizer, Acryd. He was truely
shocked about these news and told the public afterwards in the irc, that
Chaos was dissed inside the orga team because of this case. He was really
sorry for this mistake and made sure that this would never happen again.
Also, we should not forget that Chaos is not the whole BP orga team and
vice versa. He`s only one member of them and they`re already thinking
about somebody else that could take over the leadingship over the Amiga
compos because Chaos will never be active in the Amiga Scene again.
Darkhawk of Iris spontaneously offered his helping hands, which would be
a real clever choice. He could deliver the knowledge and also the hardware,
which is needed to show old or modern Amiga demos.

The Pc Scener Shifter warned me during the Breakpoint that "If we Amigans
would not stop doing such troubles, we should not be surprised if there
won`t be held any compos for us anymore!" Well, sorry Shifter, but this
is nothing than pure bullshit. The Symposium was once a pure Amiga party.
The first one in the middle of the 90`s was a sort of bbs meeting of
Gandalf/Phantasms "Black Box" BBS. Some years later only a few miles away
from the Amiga dominated "Symposium" the PC only "Mekka" party took place
during the same time. And then it was time to come together and make it
being one party - the Mekka^Symposium was born. And nobody in the Pc or
Amiga Scene did have a problem with this solution.

I am sure the organizers of the Breakpoint know of their roots and I don't
have the impression that they tend to be unfair. Of course Scamp felt
fucked up because of my "NO PPC at BP06" article in JP#15. But hey,
honestly spoken, it turned out too harsh and therefore, who would have not
felt hurted? He could have started flamewars during the party as we
crossed our ways for several times, but he decided to better ignore me and
concentrated himself on doing his job.

The Drifters demo is with no doubt a summery of animations. That far Chaos
is correct. Of course showing animations only is not a top notch job for
a coder, but as an orga he should not take care about the content of a
demo as long as it:

- does run properly
- demos may not contain commercial parts, like f.e. stolen music, graphics
etc.
- no nazi slogans, porn etc.
- wasn`t released already. Like the Warp9 demo, which I could find in the
Aminet being uploaded in 1998!! Sadly none of the visitors, nor Chaos
himself did have a clue about that! ***THAT*** would have been his job!
But otherwise, this prod was so unpopular at the end of the 90s, that
almost nobody knew about it before the BP took place.

As the production of Drifters does not break against any of those rules,
Chaos should just have shown it during the competition and nothing else.

But I think with this article and Acryds` words in #amigascne this case
should be closed again. Breakpoint was superb once again. The whole orga
crew cannot be taken responsible for the incorrect behavior of only one
of their members. And if an active Amiga Scener like Darkhawk would be
allowed to take care of the Amiga demos next year would make sure that
everything will work perfectly.

That`s at least my opinion.
