This according to Q magazine:
The Charlatans are now recording a new single, "One to Another," due in
August and coproduced by one of the Chemical brothers.
They've completed a total of 7 new tracks.
Could this mean an album's on the way this fall?

I think, though, "...Christmas Day " was added to the US version of Tiger
Bay, which took a while to come out over here. IT's a great "pop" track,
...it's not on the UK import, though.

One thing that we might want to consider in this Charlies/Roses discussion:
(keep in mind that I absolutely ADORE the Stone Roses)
The Charlatans keep getting better with every album, but the Roses took a
whopping six years (and yes, I counted the days) to make album that is very
good, but not as good as their debut.
And on that topic, is that little rascal Squire really out of the band
for good or is he just trying to make us sweat again. My misinformation will
probably be my demise...

Well, from what i've heard, John has left, and is planning on teaming up
with Reni to form a new project. The Roses are planning to find a new
guitarist to replace John. I highly doubt that this is possible. Those are
pretty big boots to fill......Johnny Marr? Bernard Butler? Ace Frehely?

I'm reading in your messages you can buy so many Madchester and Britpop CDs,
compilations and stuff like that and the only thing I can do is feel jealous
Right now I'm in heaven, I'm sorry but until Aug 18th or abouts there I will
have good access to a lot of things other people don't (sorry if this sounds
like gloating.) Although the records are a bit pricey. As soon as I
head back to uni. it's over. There are not a lot of good record stores where I
live, If they recieve an NME with a tape they remove it same goes fer all other
mags. it's sad really. Plus Charlies records are few and far between, I
have everything that they have and nothing new comes in (old stuff I mean)
So I'm stuck like yer are, ken?
Lately, you are talking 'bout some new NME compilation with the
Charlies on it. OK, so I went to this foreign press library and bought the
latest NME
The NME Comp I was talking about yer can find at a good record store it's a cd.
Still haven't got it yet though. (3000 yen is a bit much I ( I think it
was something like that-$30.00)
By the way, The Only One I Know deserves the right to be on each and every
groovy music compilation
That is true, but....*but* people think that's all the charlies are good fer a
one hit wonder. We all know that's not true, but it would be nice for people to
move on and realize there's more to the Charlies than The only one I know.
Whether tha's a good thin or a bad thing I don't really ken. I know it's
selfish but I hope the Charlies never get as big as they could. I like it
better with a small group of devoted fans rather than a large group composed
of the devoted fans plu the "we heard it on the radio-an this week it's cool
so we like 'em" group. Kinda like the group tha follows the 'sis now.

Hey, hold on a second. I don't believe anyone is trying to come up with any
kind of a confrontation here. The thing is, I expressed my love for the
Roses and the Charlies and other people did the same thing. Why should we
not mention other bands in the mailing list. Ok, it is a Charlies' list but
that does not mean the rest of the World does not exist.
One more thing, please tell me what NME issue included the last compilation
with the Charlies in it.

Funny, I heard that Reni was quoted as saying that he's "never gonna play
drums again, no way no how" Perhaps he has his designs on playing keyboard?

I've heard that they're also going to try to get a keyboard player too.
Personally I think that the Roses should plain give it up. They'll never
match anything they did with Squire.

I was really thrilled to read the news about the new Charlatans single
comming up propably in August, and the new live date at Knebworth.
Finally things are starting to happening again around the Charlatans. I'm
so exited I can't wait!!!
Meanwhile we can enjoy the latest single from Kula Shaker, Tattva (since
we're talking about other great bands like the roses). And put on Patrol
by The Charlatans on your record player with your headphones on. It's
amazing!!!

There are assumingly bands with more bad luck than the charlatans.
Smashing Pumkins' tour keyboard player just died from an overdose. The
drummer in the band suplied him the drugs and has been arrested for
posession of drugs.
I guess Billy's having a hard time now!

No, I'm sorry, as much as I appricate the Cure, lol was a talentless drunk
who should have never gotten past botchin up da beats. His keyboards are an
earsore on Pornography, which thankfully had some reworking on Paris. For
some reason the drum beat does not seem as monotnous if repeated like the
keyboards.

as far as the roses go they and the charlies are my faves...but this is the
charlies list....at least people stopped comparing the two groups...and it
looks like the only baggy band to survive dignity intactv was the charlies

I heard the Bluetones song "are you blue or are you blind?" and I
thought it was pretty slick. Do you happen to know if the album was/will be
released in America? I wanted to get the disc but not pay $20 for the import.
And as far as discussing other bands on this list is concerned, I was under the
impression that these lists were set up so that people with similar musical
interests could discuss bands, especially since many before me have mentioned
that the Charlatans aren't exactly doing a whole hell of a lot right now...

Large-lipped baggy demigods who first hit the top ten with 'The Only One I know'
in 1990. Saw a low point with '92's 'Between 10th and 11th' album. But came
from the wilderness with last year's chart-topping album, 'The Charlatans'.

Was there a point where you thought of splitting up?
"It was when Rob Collins went to Jail. If he had gone down for 4 years there's
no way we would have carried on without him."

"Other than Rob it would have to be the second LP only goin in at 21. It felt
like we'd failed"
Were you ever baggy?
"By 1992 we wanted to lose all that. 'Pauls Boutique' by the Beasties was where
our heads were at. After that Manchester thing, we didn't feel that we fitted
in anywhere. I still don't know where we fit in. Round then we pretty much
hung out with ourselves, we weren't reall with that London scene- we didn't want
to be involved in getting pissed with Lush. Ah, that sounds terrible doesn't
it? It's not meant personally."
Where did it go right?
"'Can't Get Out Of Bed' got us taken for real. At the time, Me and Mark
(Collins) were living in Salford, banging down loads of Es.
Why did you survive?
"The will to convince people. There's no use in aiming low. We want to go down
as successors to The Who........I've had a couple of Gin and Tonics."
Who should have made it but didn't?
"I guess Ride had a bit of potential at the start. Isuppose we could have gone
in similar direction if one of us had gone on a massive mod trip."
What would you be doing if you hadn't made it?
"working in a chippy. I still fancy that. I'd like not having to sing for a
bit- think all day and dream about buying me fave records and books. I wouldn't
mind that."

Next lil' bit has nothing to do with Tim&co. but as the list is finally
bubbling with conversation...press [del] now to avoid disappointment.
What a lovely little suprise of a weekend. Shed7 decided in the last
minute to open for Catherine Wheel. Felt seeing one 20min rendition of
"Black Metallic" was enough so I didn't get tix. But booted down to the
gig when I found out about Shed. Scalpers were robbing Shed fans for
$70+ `cause the show sold out ages ago. If I hadn't come with good
friends would have been very tempted to scalp my +4 on the list for
them. Excellent show. Crowd singing in complete unison to "Long Time
Dead". Rick got Alan to do the backing vox for "Jumping Jack Flash".
That boy has a hard enough time keeping the beat and bobbing his smiley
head. Sorely missed: Ocean Pie and Bully Boy. But brilliant ntl.
Couldn't even stay for CW. Too anti-climatic.
Thanks for tuning in. So unrelated to this list...oh wait. um...the
Charlies came on right after Shed7 at last year's T. Some link to this
tangent.

I did think of telling you about that, but yes, the sampled bit on pt109
is taken from that film Angel Heart. I didn't know about it when I first
saw the film, so I was suprised myself when DeNiro came with that line.
Pretty cool. The Farm did something simular to that on the same time. On
their song Hearts and Minds from Spartacus they're using samples from
another DeNiro film (a mob film from when they brought illegal liquor to
America, Can't remember the name now though)_.
As for Japanese, there are a few of us speaking it on the list. I do. I
understand it can be bothering for some, so I can cut it out if you like.
It's a nice language though....

I saw this film a while back. I happened to flip past it when the line
"...liquor and prostitution and dope..." was spoken. Of course I stopped.
The film was called something like 'an american story' or the like. Can't
quite remember. Good album that Sparticus.

bike up at Lunds off of Humboldt and lake Street, I followed a nice tight ass
in a pair of skin tight shorts into the produce department. Nice fucking

sweat on this hot, sticky Sunday in the Twin Cities overpriced chain of

The 28 bus puked hot exhaust on the pavement by the new library statues. Dog
shit,
Caribou coffee cups and stained condoms signaled to the world that
Minneapolis was now a "grown up city" bustling with culture. The veins in my
arms we're ready to burst. I threw up my Macaroni and Cheese breakfast on my
Doc Martin's. I felt like a new man.
And now for the news--as told to Shaman Bart...
First Ave. June 19. Bob (yes, that Bob) was in good, though not rare, form.
Trying to
parlay his birthday present of a free ticket to the Posies into something
that will get him
kicked out, or maybe slapped, he proceeds to scoping out the area. It is an
all age show, but Bob confines his wandering gaze to the alcohol(ic) section.
Possibly because he still is wearing his ring, the bar maid gives him a
"What the fuck" look and leaves. He finally settles on two mid twenties
chicks who have good seats on the balcony above the stage. (His hands wished
they could settle on their two seats in a darker corner of the balcony).
The Posies do cuts from the latest release which blend in fairly well with
their earlier
songs, and suddenly the new stuff sounds pretty fine. Bright
pinkish-redhaired Ken
Stringfellow spastically jumping around, thrashing at his guitar for all its
worth, leading
the band through a charged hour and a half set. Little did he know that he
still had to
meet ...
Bob.
Somewhere in the middle of the set, I lost Bob, opting instead to go down to
the floor,
positioning myself by the women of Melrose Place. Booty shaking, tits
jigglin underage
chicks, with boyfriends giving me mean glances saying "I'm a dumb fuck from
Richfield
with a great looking girlfriend. I don't know nothing about this band but
keep your eyes
off her ass or I'll cry!" As I was blissfully enjoying the scene and sounds,
thinking about if the Posies would play a Zombies cover, if I could scrounge
up bail money if needed, how old was that girl in front of me, Bob had
spotted Jonny Disturbed, pressing his way in the thronging clueless masses.
Bob sprang to and wound his way in through the crowd, alternately muscling
and groping to clear his path, reminiscent of a young Sen. Bob Packwood.
Jon was in the midst of connecting with the blonde lead Velocity Girl.
Dazzling her with his encyclopedic knowledge of the Seattle music and
compliments. Just as he was about to hoist her tight buns onto his
shoulders, he hears "Hey Arenson!! What the fuck are you doing? Let's get
up front." The trio then presses forth, ending up by Ken Stringfellow's
monitor, the seat of all glory.
There they found another blonde, who had short jean shorts, a rock groupie
hairdo, and
had been around the block a few thousand times. Promises of backstage
passes, drinks, other consummables, something resembling phone sex, yes Jon
and Bob were getting in!
Getting into pants or backstage, who knew??
"Hey Ken Stringfellow. Posies bigtime rock star! Sing some Beatles tunes,
or that
Zombies stuff you cover. Igot it on a CD. Forget this new shit you're
trying to do.
'Ontario' what the fuck is that shit or 'Grant Hart?' Trust me I know music.
Iwas the best fucking DJ in the Midwest at Grapes. Gary Numan and Techno
rules! Stick to classic covers Ken, may i call you Ken?"
The Posies singer then finished off the last part of "Surrender" a cover they
did for their
final number, just like Rick Nielsen and the Illinois boys of noise. A piece
of Ken's
Telecaster that resembled a tomahawk nearly missed ripping a hole in Bob's
neck. His
head pushed way too fucking close to the personal space of Mr. Stringfellow.
Jon Auer
screamed for the last time "You're Daddy's allright1" and broke his Gibson SG
over the
monitor over next to Evil Bob.
"You have no right!" Bob screamed and got ready to cold-cock the air with
his quivering
fist in the direction of the Seattle popstars.
"Fuck off, loser! You're drunk." Ken Stringfellow screamed as he walked
down the
wooden ramp to the dressing room area by the stage. He flicked a sharp black
Fender
guitar pick into Bob's eye and put out a freshly lit smoke on the front of
Bob's Sheik's
Gentleman's Club polo shirt. The Posies fled the stage, glad to be rid of
this warped all
age pseudo-Saved-by-the-Bell/My So Called Life Generation Yuck crowd.
And now back to our regularly scheduled programming...
Wiping the vomit from my mouth with my shirt I saw Angela dart back into the
Uptown in that horrible black lace grannydress of her's. Ha! The stupid
cunt left her pack of
Marlboros. They fit nicely into my backpack and one between my parched lips.
I lit one
and sucked the tobacco into my dead carcass.
Just then the blue Volvo station wagon pulled up behind the McDonalds and
stopped,
idling in the alley.
Walking closer to the Volvo I noticed something was wrong.
"Marco's in jail. He got arrested last night at the New french. Narcs got
all of his
Mexican Black Tar, every damn ounce of it all. I've got nothing for you.
Sorry. I gotta
go. Good luck Jeff." Nice chick, Marco's lady, Kim. Didn't recognize her
at first when
she looked at me through the window of the Volvo. Six years and about six
thousand
mainlines can transform a healthy suburban babe into a heifer with a habit,
if you get
enough free smack to shoot. God love Marco but she gave Kim all she wanted.
Seeing the Volvo speed off towards Kenwood I walked across the street and
bought two
cartons of Camel straights, some Zig zags, some Bic lighters and a bag of
Doritos. Fifty bucks is worthless to me if I can't stick it into my neck and
meet God, Satan, Jimi, Jim Morrison, Janis, Dizzy, Kurt and jack Kerouac in a
hot rush of chemically-enhanced
orgasmic mind numbing rushing energy rushing second. I'm totally bummed.
Fuck it all.
I hate the Minneapolis police.

two cigarette
cartons and my bag to the floor with a thud.
"Jesus, motherfucker....this is..." I threw up as I saw Crank's head

Persian rug. His brains and pieces of his hair in dreds and bone fragments
stuck onto the base of the VCR.. Patrick, who we all called Snicker was
there too. A shotgun, still red- hot from firing a round smoked in the
corner by his knee. Part of his face was gone and i tried to remember whaT
HE LOOKED LIKE WITHOUT A PIECE MISSING!!!!
