Yeah, I heard they were both pretty amazing during the whole Norwegian
tour. But what did you think of Twigs? I haven't seen them live yet,
but I will as you know in about two weeks time - any hints to what they
sound like live - and their new songs?

THE GWEN STACYS + NERVE
On March 28th, venue Kulturkammaren in Norrkoping will open its doors
for a new club (with rights to serve) and the opening bands are local
talents The Gwen Stacys (Uppers - www.nittygritty.se/uppers/) + newly
started Nerve which is a band formed by ex-members from Sonic Surf City
and Cod Lovers. Worth waiting for? Yeah.

Exactly my sentiment (sp?) - please try to take the politics and that
stuff outside the list. Even though it is important to discuss these
things, this list is not intended for that subject.

Sure do. I have the whole thing (ie. including the "interview" the
.. hmm, girl working there, did). I even copied it for a friend in
the US who's on the list as well a while back - so I suppose it
can be found in NTSC too now. But you want PAL, right? Perhaps
we can do a trade of some sort? Let me know (in private I suppose)?

If think I recorded that one, at least the first 30-45 minutes of it;
I'll check my mc-basket tomorrow.

CONTEST
A quick contest for those living in Stockholm, Malmo, Goteborg and Hultsfred
and who wants to go to the Hultsfred Festival "release party" on monday
(March 2nd) - I have two (2) tickets for the release party (NOT THE FESTIVAL)
which will go to the first person who send me a copy of their sent-in "want
list" for the festival (which you do under "band" on the Hultsfred Festival
website) which must include these bands:

(Foreign): Bardo Pond (US), Transister (UK), Mojave 3 (UK), Swervedriver (UK)
and Curve (UK).
(Swedish): Fidget, The Wellmeant, Shallow Soundwave, Aquadays, and Smartalec.

(ie. you have to copy the screen you send in before you send it, and the
receipt you get when you have sent it - and pass them on to me - ie. to
chief@lysator.liu.se)

*PLUS* - you will have to report back to the list what happened during the
event - what was said, which bands were revealed and so on - so you'll
act like a Scandinavian Indie reporter (sort of).

Well, this was the best thing I could come up with - as I can't go to
the parties myself :-( I thought it was better if at least *someone*
related to Scan-Indie can.

----------------
Please note that you have to do this ASAP - because I have to send the
tickets to you on friday at the latest.

First: I do not know if anyone has already posted this. There was a huge
breakdown in the mailserver I use and I have quite a load of e-mails to
catch up on (125 to be exact). This is as far as I have come right now.

But anyway, I also heard about rumours that THE VERVE are coming to
Hultsfred. This is not at all confirmed. I read it on the Ettnollett
website (www.nordling.com/ettnollett), I think. It was someone at the
Lollipop festival who was bitter that Hultsfred had one "the battle" about
this band.

Hmm, there's nothing about this on their site now though - I know Verve
is rumored to play at least 10-11 festivals this summer around Europe,
though they are also going to tour the US this summer as well. No
offical news about them playing _any_ festival but the V98 one in the
UK has been revealed yet (though of course I hope it's true they'll
play both Roskilde and Hultsfred ;))

Cornershop, if you don't know them, have become the latest overnight indie
sensations in the UK -- new single 'Brimful of Asha' straight in at #1,
after several years of complete obscurity. The band is mostly children of
Indian immigrants, and there's a definite Indian tinge to their tuneful,
dreamy indiepop. They're good fun, go and see them!

The new Aknestik album is out! It's called Aallonmurtaja (see
http://www.hut.fi/~ukkonen/aknestik.html for more info, well pictures
anyway, the rest is in Finnish).

Apparently their single Suomirokkia ('Finland-rock') is getting plenty
of airplay.

And their latest album is absolutely wonderful with a track called "Funky
days are back again" which is probably one of the coolest of last year. I
sure wish I could be there to see them.

Gig report!

I went to see Grand tone Music and the rest at Tanto this tuesday. OK,
so this was a sponsored event by Kulturhuvudstadsaret, and about one
zillion of indiekids wanted to pay 10 SEK to see these bands.

I went there at 20.00 and the little lada called tantogarden was FULL:
indiekids hanging out fron the windows, pouring out from the chimney,
it looked like a train in India. And about 2-300 who lined up outside,
with no chance of getting in.

So I was on the list, got in and just saw the last 3 songs by the
opening act, Pimms. Now, they were kinda typical for the tendency of
always picking up the latest popular trends: Pimms was like a Radiohead
cover band, they copied the sound, the instruments, the style of the
singer, the awkwardness, everything. The only difference is that
they're trying to play their own songs.
I found myself guessing "which RH song are they trying to imitate now?
- there was the acoustic guitar on fake Plastic Trees, now came the
crunchy guitar/bass from Creep, the singer went falsetto a la Paranoid
Android (*ouch, that part was just too pathetic*), whining like High
and Dry. You get the point.

Not that they were bad, but Radiohead makes it just so much better, why
should i waste my time listening to second rate wannabees? OK, it
wasn't 100 % RH imitation. When he didn't sound like Thom Yorke, the
singer went "Jocke Berg" from Kent. Nuff said.

GTM were second out. Nothing much had changed since i saw them at
Prinsen last year. All songs were kinda mellow, although intense. If I
had been in the right mood, I would have cried tears. "Sad songs say so
much", you know.
I must say I miss the rockier side of Salt, GTM would never play songs
like God Damn Carneval, which is a shame, really.
OK, these ballads are fine, but everything is so soft and sentimental...
The hammond organ was stripped of it's back, so you could see all the
mechanics inside, that looked pretty cool.

BTW, the drummer was wearing a Baxter t-shirt. Anyone heard anything
with them yet???

Doktor Kosmos. OK, these people are my friends. Heck, me and Catti
Larson were classmates for six years! I know all the Dr K guys from my
gymnaisum years in Gavle. Still, I'm having a hard time trying to enjoy
their music.
Sorry, but it's just not my style. Just like Di Leva was in the
beginning, to "manieristic", anxious to so strange and weird. I can
stand some of the songs on record, but seeing them on stage was just
too much, i left after two songs. Sorry Catti! :-/

Hey, if somebody is coming to good old Tampere they should definitely
probe the 2nd hand stores by the railway station. This week I found
both "Thee Ultra Bimboos" cd albums, EAT YOUR HEART OUT !

And there's always a couple of Aknestik, Supperheads, The Pansies and
whatnot singles floating around.

bye,

Umm, well. I met Jari from BQ at the HiC gig, and asked him about
upcoming shows. He mumbled smth (hey, why are the guys in BQ always
mumbling?) about Umea and possibly Lulea, those two gigs were the only
ones planned this spring... Nothing in stockholm *sob* :~(
