From: Erik Soderstrom <chief@lysator.liu.se>
Subject: Scan-Indie website goes ahead

I've come to the conclusion that the Scan-Indie website will not go
any further without the "spiffy" web techniques developed through
the years and have therefor added a java-based news-scroller to the
site today as a first step.

I know some of you are 100% HTML-heads, and I am one too, but I won't
be able to get the news up on the web in any other way at the moment.
I didn't put the scroller on the homepage (first page) at least - so
those who are not interested / hate java-shockwave-scripts-etc, don't
have to see it.

Next project is probably a free-text search of the Digest archive - but
I'm not sure when I'll find the time to do it, so... when it happens, it
happens.

Any suggestions on stuff you miss on the site?

do a trade (favourable for you) or I could send you some of my svenske

I've heard that they wanted six months off before recording the new album.
So, I wouldn't be too sure about another Scandinavian tour this year.
Unless, of course, they are going to play here *before* the next album!

I saw it, nothing to rave about. They were asked if the success of bands
like Verve and Radiohead has helped them, which they admitted. Also was
mentioned the fact that they relesed the english sung version of Isola
outside Scandinavia and if it breaks big they'll go that way. And they
rather support the Finnish hockey team because of their moms !

Hia!

To everyone planning on going to Fritz Corner, Stockholm on March 25.
You have to call the place and give them your name and "person nummer"
and tell them which night you're comming in order to get in. Call them a
couple of days before the gig. Phonenumber: +46 (0)707-270853. You'll
end up on a list and when u get there, just tell them you're on that
bloody list and they'll smile, take 50 sek from you and let u in.. :)
See ya there :)

Kent and Verve? I don't see the similarities.

Seems like "If You Were Here" is doing pretty well at the moment at
least. It was 4th on the "most wanted" videos played on MTV Europe
yesterday. Pretty funny to see the Swedish video "dubbed" in that way
- in the the English version you never get to see Jocke's mouth when
he sings. ;) Kind of scary to hear it in English the first times too..

> And they rather support the Finnish hockey team because of their moms !

Heh, yeah, it was prettty sad to see that none of the teams did a good job
in Japan though. Thanks for the translation/explanation Sami!

The scary thing about it is not the dubbing or the surprise of seeing it
in english, it is the horrible english pronounciation Mr. Berg
demonstrates. Kent will never make it big in the enlish speaking world.
Remember from whom you heard it first...

I can hear some similarities between their latest albums (at least I think
I can). I remember that I only had heard a couple of chords of "Saker man
ser" before I said "VERVE" to myself. Sounded very "Drugs dont work"-ish to
me. And I would certainly not have been extremely surprised if that tune
and a couple of the other on "Isola" had been on "Urban hymns" instead (I
might have been a bit surprised if they had been there with Swedish texts,
perhaps). But this may, of course, just be me.

The danes call it Danmark's most beautiful festival, because of the
surroundings (trees) and it's not so crowdy than Roskilde,
but usually, the music is not much to write home about, that is if
you are into Indiepop, a term almost unknown in Denmark.

yeah, between Hissi and the new one, Pori, there's Fraten and a split 7"
with Disco... i'm really not the expert on these guys, except that Hissi,
Fraten and Pori are the more krautrocking ones, and their first ones Meronia
and Zopalki more on the clod crusher side of things... i'm still rather
spending my money on the original krautrock stuff like Can, Faust & Amon
Duul (II), and some of the american and japanese genre, but maybe when i've
gone through those i'll go buy some Circle. just a personal preferance.

How about the new mutiny? 270 reviews is a pretty respectable amount... i've
always thought of the guy, JMT, as a real serious case of music freakdom, so
i was naturally a little scared when i noticed that i had stuff that even
he hasn't got... maybe i should calm down with the record buying.

If you still can't seem to get rid of your ridiculous Oasis fixation buy
Guided by Voices' Alien Lanes, and hear what it's all about.

Hm, yes, agree partly to it! 22 Pistpirrko is somewhat known here in
germany, too, but I've NEVER heard of Cessna anywhere but here on
Scan-Indie! But I plan to get a first listening to them.

And, as I'm looking down, sorry for having used these umlauts (again, I
fear)!
