nine inch nails review

Written by Hacksaw

"Kind of like a cloud, I was up--way up in the sky and I was feeling
some feelings you wouldn't believe... Some times I don't believe them myself
and I decided I was never coming down. Just then, a tiny little dot caught
my eye; it was just about too small to see but I watched it way too long...
It was pulling me down."

Funny how the words of Trent Reznor mean so much... Yet seperatly
mean nothing.

In his last full-length album, The Downward Spiral, Trent expresses
his opinion on religion, women, feelings, big guns, Hell, and dark pasts.

Obviously the man believes in a God. In his lyrics he includes var-
ious clues that make you wonder how someone could be so fucked up. When you
listen to him play, sing... When you watch him run around on stage... What
goes through your mind? Have you ever taken the time to listen to the lyrics,
not just the words, but how they are spoken/screamed? Have you ever taken it
upon yourself to feel the emotion and the catastrophies involved in under-
standing him?

I was pondering a thought the other day... Excercising my mind. I
was wondering what makes his music, his words, his actions so powerful... It's
not the music. Anyone with equipment can make something to sound similair.
It's not the words... Anyone seriously fucked up can purge out lyrics about
his/her life and what's wrong with it. It's not the actions... Any good
choreographer can create scenes that make you shrink. But, I did figure out
what it is. All of a sudden it hit me like a freight train.

Every time he sings in the studio... Every time he is in front of
thousands of people, millions of people... Singing, creating, raising hell...
He expresses the emotions that he had when he wrote the song, and relives all
the pain all at once... That's what makes it all worth while.

Now you know what he's saying when he screams about sinning, when
he yells about getting down and making love... One thing I've noticed about
so many people is that their actions speak louder than their words. Not true
about Reznor. Equilibrium of expressions.

Album review
------------

down in it: Basic remix of the song "down in it" off pretty hate machine LP
Good stuff.

pretty hate machine: First overall album. Great songs, originals. Combination
of heavy and slow songs, blended together in a perfect
playing envirionment.

head like a hole: Remix of the song "head like a hole" from the pretty hate
machine album... Includes remixes of "terrible lie" and
"down in it" as well.

sin: Remix of the song "sin" from pretty hate machine. Kick ass! Also has
the song "get down make love"... Impressive to say the least.

broken: The first EP album released that doesn't include remixes of previous
songs. This is the CD that he released directly after divorcing his
wife. Full of rage and emotion, expressive. Includes either 99 tracks
with the last two tracks songs that aren't listed on the back of the
album, or anywhere for that matter: "physical" and "suck"; OR, if you
bought it when it was first released, you get a special limited
edition minidisc, with the songs on it.

fixed: 'this recording contains various interpretations of songs that appear
in their proper form on the "broken" EP'.

march of the pigs: Remix album of the song "march of the pigs" from "the
downward spiral"
. Kicks something fierce. Comes in two
forms: either the import 2 CD set, or the USA single.

the downward spiral: The motherfucker of the NIN collection. Quite possibly
Trent's best work. All the rage, all the excitement, all
the feelings grouped together... Something unbelievable.

closer: Remix of the song "closer" from "the downward spiral". This one is
UNBELIEVABLE. Either on the import 2 CD set or the USA single, this
album is incredible. He remixed the song and made 5 versions, all
different, but with the same effect:

closer (original)
(deviation)
(further away)
(precursor)
(internal)
closer to god

Also, this album is sort of a mystery as far as the Halo is
concerned. Maybe Trent will dote upon us with this info.

Natural born killers: This CD was completely produced by Trent Reznor, but
only has two songs written by him. "burn" and "something
I can never have"
. KICK ASS MO FO ALL THE WAY!

Mentally yours,
Hacksaw
