Hey Avalyners,

I need some confirmation on something here. I recently purchased the 12"
versions of "Slowdive," "Morningrise" and "Holding Our Breath" off of a
friend who was clearing out his vinyl collection. I was told that these are
the first three Slowdive releases ever! I am not saying that I don't
believe him, but I just wanted to make sure. E-mail me privately if you
know. Thanks.

I'm all for it. My navy-blue "Souvlaki" t-shirt isn't that navy-blue
anymore. It just looks too good not to wear it (and I met my (though
now ex-) girlfriend because of it at a Charlatans gig :-)). And the
white "Slowdive" from 1991 isn't really wearable (?) these days. A
new Slowdive t-shirt would make my day (or year if you want).

Any design thoughts out there? "Mojave 3" on the front and "Slowdive"
on the back perhaps? :-)

As far as I know they were a part of the Just For A Day album recordings,
but never chosen when they selected what songs would go on the album
in the end. So there's a slight chance that someone is sitting on the
master tapes with these songs included. Though I would imagine that
the only way of getting hold of them would be through Rachel.

There is already a Slowdive CD bootleg that has been marketed lately. It is
basically Blue Day (all the singles tracks) with the missing songs. However,
it does not include the material on the flexi and sells for the low, low
price of only $28.00. Personally, I do not support the piracy of my favorite
band, so I won't mention the person who is behind this project. If you ask
nice, and want to buy it, mail me privately and I will point you in the right
direction.

I have read so much of this digest, and I was curious to know if anyone
has heard of the Trash Can Sinatras? They are quite a treat; nothin like
you have ever heard before. Their label is Go!Discs. What are they like
and what are they a cross between you ask? They are pop, ambience,
trance, meloncoly, and they also have a very happy summer feel to their
music (esp, the sound of their first hit album "cake") They are a sharp
cross between Smiths and, well, they are too individualistic to be
compared to someone else. They are one of the most fulfilling bands of
the decade. I urge all of you. Yes, hear all of their sounds; they have
three albums out and three singles at the moment.

Kind Regards,

I will take it. And I have some good news, well, great news! Souvlaki,
Blue day, Outside your room, and HOB is quite plentiful on the ordering
lists out here in LA, California. And they are quite inexpensive

Please order your business down here. With this, I got MR, HOB, OYR, and

Pasadena is also a great place to find your USED (sorry) rarities. The
only thing that I cannot find are slowdive videos and Pygmalion.

Perhaps, but some of their material reminds me of early Aztec Camera.
Then again, they're both scottish and both have covered a great
song, "Dolphins" by Fred Neil (and I've never heard the original).
The The covered the song as well on their 1990 ep 'shades of blue.
Of the 3, Roddy Frame's (AC) version is my favorite.

TCS are a good band that I'm sure people would enjoy.
Their 3rd album was not released stateside so I don't know how
their sound has changed. At the same time I wouldn't want to mislead people
into thinking that their sound is similar to slowdive :-)

Not sure how complete this'll be, but I'll give it a go:

-split 7" with Fuxa (Mind Expansion/Blue Flea)
-Antarctica (bliss out) CD/12" on darla
-Portal CD on Ba Da bing!
-Drawing of Sound LP/CD on Icon (vinyl may be on blue flea) - 1st pressing
sold out, repressing of vinyl recently, limited to 1000
-Emerald 7" on Enraptured (I think)
-1st 7" release on burnt Hair (title escapes me!)
-split 7" with Hopewell on Burnt Hair
-split 7" with Grimble Grumble on Enraptured (I think) - this one's their
best track, IMO.
-Upcoming track on clairecords compilation 12"! wahoo!

that's all I know from memory! I'm sure there's more!

I am not sure about the order in which these came out, and I am also leaving
out compilations where songs from regular releases appear. Sideprojects
listed at the bottom of the list.

1. Watersong/Dragonfly 7" Blue Flea 01
2. Emerald/Fragments of Time & Space 7" - Enraptured
3. Instrumentals EP 7" - Burnt Hair Singe001
4. Windy and Carl/Fuxa split 7" - Blue Flea 04
5. Windy and Carl/Hopewell Split - Burnt Hair
6. One track on Mind Expansion Vol. 1 - Astrolanes/Mind Expansion Records
7. Portal LP - BaDaBing
8. Drawing of Sound LP - Icon
9. One track on the Go Sonic001 Compilation (ten one minute songs by ten
bands) - Go Sonic
10. Windy and Carl's Christmas tape - Blue Flea 06 (good luck finding this
one, there were only fifty made)
11. Antartica 12" Bliss Out Series Vol. 2 - Darla
12. Once Dreamt Side Project - Blue Flea 05 (this is a great
shoegaze/spacerock project that included Randall of Fuxa fame and their
friend Brenda)

The above is everything that I have, but I could have missed something or
other, feel free to add to the list.

Well their last album is highly recommendable too. I adore all their
songs, especially when they combine those Beatleesque chorus with the
inherent Scottish spirit. Their live performances are absolutely
brilliant as well.

In a nutshell, buy all their records!

sure thing! here goes...

various artists 'disco sucks' compilation (che 60 cd)

30 amp fuse - 'punk virtuoso'
bardo pond - 'new drunks'
bear - 'if there's such a thing as angels'
bis - 'icky-poo air raid'
c-clamp - 'saving daylight'
the delgados - 'i've only just started to breathe'
exit - 'turn me on dead man'
fuxa - 'tonality'
the golden mile - 'in stealth'
i'm being good - 'salmon not eels'
ligament - 'rarly voo'
majesty crush - 'if jfa were still together'
merzbow - 'iro moyo'
space bike - 'losing my grip'
spare snare - 'i got you'
windy+carl - 'beyond asleep'

(note: on the back insert, the 30 amp fuse track is listed as track 2, and
the numbers continue consecutively up to fuxa, which is listed as track 9,
and then continue with the golden mile, which is listed as track 11, because
tracks 1 and 10 are just short 'sound-byte'-type-things.)

hope this helps!

no, actually, it isn't...a few years ago, i saw an episode of '120 minutes'
taped at reading, and dave kendall interviewed chapterhouse, and they said
that they decided to put both 'mesmerise' and 'precious one' (both found on
the 'mesmerise' ep) on the later (u.s.?) pressings of 'whirlpool' because
'mesmerise' would not be readily available in the u.s....so in that respect,
i would think that the earlier pressings *without* the extra tracks would be
'rarer'...just for the record (no pun intended :P), my cassette (which i got
first) does not have the extra tracks, but my cd does...
