Here is an original review from 1995:

After just picking up loaded today, I can assure you, that this is one game that actually meets, if not exceeds, the hype surrounding it!

The plot: In a nutshell...kill everything. Actually, there's more, but this is a video game and not a movie or book so the plot really isn't that important here (okay, maybe it is in a rpg...this isn't one of them however)

The Cast: I know I said this isn't a movie, but for those who are not aware, there are six demented characters to choose from. I've only played with one (Cap. Hands), and he is a whole lot of fun to play...the others do look quite interesting...will have to experiment later.

The Game: Plays alot like gauntlet without the four players at once feature. There is a two player option but only is supported via the link cable (one of my few complaints about the game....why there isn't a one machine two player mode avail? I have no idea!) Beyond that this a top down view shooter with a lot of blood and enemies who can take alot of abuse! You can zoom in and out at will though so far, I prefer a view close to the default setting. The action is fairly non-stop and you can trust me that this is NO bore fest...not at all! I don't know how many missions there are (I THINK 15 but don't worry, they are quite large....kinda reminded me of BUG! sized, or perhaps, some of the larger DOOM levels).

A bad point:

The automap. Can only display surrounding area....no way (that I know of anyway) to expand to see the entire level. Also, areas that you have not explored are shown on the map. Kinda takes the "secret" out of the secret areas. BTW: secret areas seem to be walls that appear to be cracked and falling apart...these can be blown open to revel passages to other areas usually containing nifty power-ups and more than a few bad guys (cool! more things to Kill!)

Bottom line: If you like even the concept of this game, I highly recomend you go out and buy it NOW! My guess is that many stores will be sold out of initial shippments quite quickly! There are a couple of bad points which I've stated but they are really quite minor compared to the overall picture. For those of you who likes grades: A-

Breakdown:

Graphics: Excellent

Sound Fx: Excellent as well. You may however want to turn the music down just a hair to hear them a little better

Music: A deep basey techo sort of soundtrack that works flawlessly!

Control: Dead ON! Also, the pad can be configured to anything that works best for you (personally, I like the automap and strafe buttons reversed from the default.)

Save Feature: Yep! You can save after each level. No passwords tho.
Just a memory card option. But, according to the back of the box, it only requires one card slot.

Fun Factor: Way Way Way off the scale!

Enjoy!
Dave

Here is another review from John Mooney I found on a FTP site:

All I can say is this, Loaded may not have the deepest gameplay, but it is easily the most FUN game I've gotten so far. It's basically just Gauntlet on steroids, but I loved Gauntlet. :) All of the characters are fun to play and they all have noticible strengths and weaknesses(so its not like playing the exact same thing with different char graphics). I've only gotten to the second level but the first level has a nice layout and is quite big, theres even a decent amount of hidden rooms. I haven't gotten a chance for 2-player yet but I think that can only add to the game. The only disappointment I've had so far is the fact that linking is not an option, I think a mag previewed it as supporting 4 players(2 per PS)with a link and I was really looking forward to that, oh well.

Anywayz I guess I gotta do the number thing.

Graphics: 9
The graphics are extremely smooth, and I havent noticed any major slowdown. The only prob is that the playing area is complex and the enemies tend to get lost in it all. The zooming and persective is VERY nice tho, the lighting is in a class all its own. The only time I've seen the 'terrain morphing' thing is with Mamma's mega-bomb, but if its used on an even larger scale that should be amazing.

Sound: 8
The sounds fit the game, but arent anything spectacular, the 'squishy-body-blowing-apart' noise is quite nice. :)

Music: 8
The in-game music just seems right, altho its a tad repetitive.

Gameplay: 10
Sure its only running around mindlessly shooting things, but its fun! The controls are perfect(altho I do change the default setting), it only took me about 2 or 3 minutes to be able to get the hang of it enuff to play decently. One suggestion, put the 'strafe' button on one of the right shoulder buttons instead of the left where the default is.

Overall: 9
The game is extremely fun, but if only the sounds had a bit more OOOMPH to them. The trail of dismembered bodies and piles of gore you leave in your wake is truly something to behold. :)
