Clearing Up the Confusion E-Zine Vol 01 Issue 12

------- Clearing Up the Confusion E-Zine -------
Vol 1, Issue 12

Social networking sites are starting to pop up all over the place
these days. We've all heard about MySpace, both the good and the
bad. I've even done an article or two about LinkedIn. Now
there's a new site that's really picking up steam. It's called
"Facebook" and it is the focus of my article this issue.

1. Article: About Face (Book)
----------------------------------------------------------------

Starting last October, I took part in the Ann Arbor Chamber of
Commerce's Leadership Ann Arbor program. Fifty-five of us got
together every month to learn about some aspect of the Ann Arbor
area. Now that our group has graduated, however, several of us
have been looking for a way to stay connected. In addition to a
monthly gathering, we thought it would be a good idea to have
some sort of electronic mechanism to keep in touch. To that end,
I've been investigating Facebook.

Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/) is a social networking site
which means that, after you register, you create a profile for
yourself and then link yourself as a "friend" to other people on
the service. No matter what the focus of the social network,
whether it be music or business or knitting (yes, there is such a
beast), they pretty much all have this in common.

Originally only for students, Facebook is fast entering the
mainstream as more and more businesspeople join the fray. While
it isn't the wild and woolly MySpace, it does aspire to be more
fun than the more strictly business-oriented LinkedIn. As you
might guess from the name, Facebook is quite visually oriented.
Part of your profile is a photo of yourself (though many go for a
cartoon or nothing at all) and it provides support to upload,
maintain, and tag your digital photo albums. It also has a
number of "applications" which allow you to add fun and useful
features to your profile page. Just in my brief browsing of the
available gadgets, I found add-ons which would display the
weather, play games, even one neat one which would generate a
colorful network map of the connections between all of my
friends.

What attracted me to Facebook for our Leadership class was its
group support. You can create special group spaces with varying
degrees of privacy. These areas supply messaging capability,
photo and video display, and even discussion forums. This is
pretty much exactly what we need to keep track of our individual
members, their skills, networks, and needs, and whatever summary
reports from our gatherings which we might care to post.

If you should decide to give Facebook a try, be sure to stop by
and visit my profile. Post an answer to one of my questions,
leave a message on my wall, and, if you'd like, add me to your
list of friends.

3. Guest Article: The More You Give Away For Free, The Wealthier You Will Be
----------------------------------------------------------------

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Scott_Ginsberg] Scott Ginsberg

The more you give away for free, the wealthier you will be.

In 1999, Seth Godin wrote a book called Permission Marketing.

In addition to selling the book on Amazon, Seth also offered it
as a downloadable ebook ... for free.

The ENTIRE book. For nothing. A publishing first!

Not only did millions of people download it...

Not only did millions of people tell their friends about it...

But millions of people also BOUGHT Seth's book too. And it would
later become one of the fastest, best selling books in history.

He now has a cult following, comparable to the likes of Tom
Peters and Peter Drucker. Oh, and his speaking fee is more than
some people's annual income.

The more you give away for free, the wealthier you will be.

Speaking of Tom Peters, let's talk about Tom Peters.

Notwithstanding his existing reputation as a brilliant author,
speaker and consultant, he still gives everything away for free.

Every article. Every ebook. Every rant. Every special report.
Every set of PowerPoint slides.

Everything.

He gets it.

The more you give away for free, the wealthier you will be.

Also understood by Ryan Adams, one of my favorite songwriters.

In 2007, he recorded eight new albums (yes, eight) all at once.
Each of his new CD's was available as free downloads on his
website.

Media outlets worldwide gasped at his prolificacy. He made music
history.

And scores of fans old and new swarmed his homepage for days at a
time (not hours, but days) to download all the new tunes from
their favorite rocker.

Including myself.

Make no mistake: Ryan Adams' generosity won't go unrewarded.

While many Gen X artists are cowering beneath the shadows of
unstoppable American Idol atrocities, Adams is only growing
bigger and better.

Because he's not afraid to give at all away.

The more you give away for free, the wealthier you will be.

Just do it. Don't worry. The world pay you back.

LET ME ASK YA THIS...

What are you giving away for free?

LET ME SUGGEST THIS...

Email me with your best story about how the world paid you back.
