One of the problems people are having with the STE and hard drives is that the data is being shifted two bytes. This text file is not about this problem. Sorry.

Another problem is just random hard drive nastiness. This seems to be a result of a very noisy DMA bus. This text file is for that problem, at least if it _is_ caused by DMA bus noise.

If you have an AdSCSI (formerly Advantage) ST or AdSCSI Plus ST host adapter, then buy the Supercharger upgrade. We have incorporated a fix into this upgrade for this STE noise problem. All host adapters manufactured after the date above will have this fix built in.

If you have an older STHA and are having problems, then A) buy an AdSCSI ST or AdSCSI ST Plus host adapter or B) get out your soldering iron and add a 22 picofarad capacitor across D3. This ONLY works on the old STHA. D3 is just to the left of the battery and has a diode symbol (a triangle and a bar) between the holes. There probably isn't a diode actually there, but it doesn't matter one way or the other.

We can put the capacitor in for $40 + shipping and handling, our standard repair rate, but it is pretty simple, and you should be able to find a friend who will do it if you don't want to.
