moebius is a new ansi editor, that caught me by surprise. not because
i haven't heard anything about the project, but because it has many
features that other ansi editors don't and that does stuff the "right
way".

i am not going to write all features or bugs of moebius, but only
those that "surprised" me and made an impression by their
implementation or absence. by any means, this article is not
against/con moebius, but rather a slight "push" to the right
direction, to even be a better ansi editor, cause finally, i saw
things implemented, that should have, in other editors, years now...

what i liked...

# finally an ansi editor, included a help file for its key shortcuts,
that you can reference at.
# the numpad feature is also a nice idea.
# too many fonts to work with, nice.
# many of the key shortcuts are "classic"
# the thing that every tool can use half/full block chars. or colorize
mode etc. is very nice
# that reference image stuff, is way too cool!!!
# shift key, while drawing erases stuff!!! nice...

what i didn't like... or it's missing...

# the crosshair cursor is very hard to see. it's very tiring for the
eyes to work.
# copy/paste, even between two open instances of moebius doesn't work
too well
# no thedraw font, support...
# in linux, i couldn't load, ansi files, with many lines. something
clogs up and it shows about 25-30 lines.
# i don't like the thing that the characters, in top of the screen,
change to the selected color, cause if you chose some dark colors,
are hard to see them. i don't mind for the chars to be always in
light gray.
# the transparency in the tools, while selecting/drawing stuff, is
very helpful, as you can see what is under.
# if you have turned off ICE colors, you can still select light colors
for the background, which mixes things up. to avoid mistakes while
drawing, it should not let you select light colors as the background
color, when this option is turned off.
# i think a statusbar with some help text, specially when making a
selection, would be nice.

overall, i think that moebius is the continuation of pablo, which
hasn't been updated for some time now. it has more functions and i
find it more usable than pablo. still needs some fixes and features to
be the best ansi editor, but right now, i can erase pablo from disk :p
cause moebius took a place on it.

you can get moebius in this links:

Thank you! I've corrected the date in the article. However, some websites list January 1980 as the date of death.
