By reading this guide you will be able to make your own PS2 movie-files (.pss). Instructions on how you can make the PS2 to view these files can be found in the PS2 VCD Player Tutorial that can be found on http://www.ps2ownz.com. I strongly recommend you to obtain this guide and read it before you start on this guide.

What do you need

  • Video file - An AVI file (max. 30 frames per second, 640X480)
  • Sound file - A Wav file (not longer than the AVI file)
  • AVI To Mpeg2 - TMPGENC (including the pss.mcf filter)
  • Wav To ADS - PS2STR
  • ADS&M2V To PSS - PS2STR

Video file
First of all you need to make your own .AVI video file. How you do this is up to your own creativity and set of programs/tools that you have available. Since I'm not an art director, I don't have expensive 3D animation programs on my machine. What I did was to get some Animation GIF programs that are used to make WEB banners. I used one of these programs to generate an animated gif. Then I used an animated gif to AVI program to get my .avi file. What you have to know is that your .avi file must not have more than 30 frames per second and it should be in 640X480.

Sound file
Again, making your .wav file is up to your own creativity. I'm not a musician, so I went on the web and found some free .wav samples. On hint is to make sure that the length of your .wav files is close to the length of your video.

Make a Mpeg2 file of your AVI file
To do this you need a program called "TMPGENC". You also have to find the PSS.MCF filter (read "Newbies Guide to the PS2 VCD Player" for more explanation).

  1. Load the pss.mcf filter by pressing Load.
  2. Insert your .avi file in the Video Source panel.
  3. Rename the output file to ".m2v"
  4. You know have a .m2v file

  1. Go to the SPU Encode tab
  2. Press Add
  3. Find your .wav file and press OK
  4. Set an output path in the Output filed
  5. You know have an .ads file

9. You will know be asked to specify were you should place your .mux file. Give the .mux file the same name that you want to give your .pss file. Press Save

10. Press Start

11. You will find your .pss file in the same directory as the .mux file
