Notes From The Editor
"""""""""""""""""""""
By John Peters
[GENIELAMP]

TOP OF THE PAGE Welcome to the mid-month issue of GEnieLamp!
""""""""""""""" If you haven't heard, the flagship issues of GEnieLamp
(GEnieLamp IBM, Mac, ST and A2) has split into two issues, released on the
1st and the the 15th of every month. The issue on the 1st will concentrate
on message highlights, news and general information. The second issue will
bring you the latest news and views from the libraries and real-time
conferences as well as other GEnie bits & pieces of information.

GEnieLamp Distribution Method Changes In the last issue, I announced that
""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" instead of listing/capturing
GEnieLamp you would soon be able to download your issue of GEnieLamp just
as you would with any other file here on GEnie. I'm happy to announce
that the new system is in place and it works great! Now you can DOWNLOAD
your favorite copy of GEnieLamp Online Magazine, just as you would any
other file found here on GEnie.

NOTE TO SCRIPT USERS For Aladdin readers we have included the new
"""""""""""""""""""" GET_THE_LAMP script in this issue of GEnieLamp IBM
and ST. With this script Aladdin will log on to the GEnieLamp page,
capture one (or more) of the issues and then either hang up or go on and do
an autopass 1 or 2. See ADD ALADDIN for elsewhere in this issue for
details. For Macintosh readers a new version of GEnieLamp Module v3.01e
will be released that will allow you to download any and all issues of
GEnieLamp Mac/MacPRO and the other platforms -- up to 8 at a time -- from
page 515 and the new DIGIPUB RT library at 1395. See this column in the
next issue of GEnieLamp for complete details.

T/TalkNET Publishing & LiveWire Online Starting with the March/April
"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" issue of Livewire, T/TalkNET has
been commissioned to do the final formatting of the online version of
LiveWire Magazine. The online version of LiveWire has many articles and
features that are not found in its sister hardcopy publication, LiveWire.
To check out the latest issue, type LIVEWIRE at any GEnie main menu
prompt. (And like GEnieLamp, LiveWire Online is GEnie*Basic!)

Until next time...

3 On 1: Debt Manager
""""""""""""""""""""

[R.CONNORS2]

Program Name : Debt Manager
Filename : DEBTMG13.ZIP
Library Area : 3
Program Number : 32233
File Size : 51,584
Program Type : Financial
Author : Practical Applications
Version Reviewed: 1.03
File Type : Shareware ($20)

[*][*][*]

FROM THE AUTHOR Debt Manager(tm) is the complete do-it-yourself get out
""""""""""""""" of debt software miracle of the century. Finally, expert
financial help is available in the privacy and comfort of your own home.

Debt Manager(tm) employs a debt structuring technique that literally
saves thousands of dollars in unpaid interest penalties. Financial
counselors have been using this method of debt repayment for years and now
it's available to you for a fraction of the cost of a single professional
financial counselling session.

Debt Manager(tm) is simple to use. The screens have been created with
easy to follow directions and extra help is available with the touch of the
<F1> key.

Put Debt Manager(tm) to work for you today and join the thousands
that are on their way to becoming debt free. We get excited when customers
share their success with us and we'd love to hear from you.

[*][*][*]

MINI_BYTE BY BRAD [4 Lamps] Debt Manager(tm) is a different kind of
""""""""""""""""""""""""""" financial calculator. It lets you input the
particulars about all your debts, including creditor, balance, interest
rate, and minimum monthly payment. You tell it how much extra money a
month you're willing (or able) to devote to paying off debts. Debt Manager
will then let you choose one of three methods to pay the debt off, and tell
you how much you'll save by doing so (of course the amount is decreased by
the $20 registration fee - nice touch <G>). You can view or print details
on how to divvy up the monthly till.

One of the nice features of Debt Manager is the ability to save the
data you input. That way, after you make more payments, or the amount of
extra money you can donate to the deficit reduction plan changes, you
simply pull up the old data, update it, and get a new or updated plan.
Another nice feature is the ability to play "what if" by adjusting the
extra amount or the payoff strategy to see what works best.

Debt Manager is very simple to use, and for $20, it's well worth a
look. Hopefully, there's not too many of us who need to use it <g>.

MINI BYTE BY TIPPY [4 1/2 Lamps] Debt Manager is a handly little program
"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" for anybody who need a plan to pay off
their debt. The program comes with a sample file that you can play around
with to learn what this program can do. And it can do quite a lot. After
entering the account information, you select how much money you will pledge
each month towards paying these debts off. The program gives you three
different strategies to pay off these debts, and then generates, according
to the strategy you selected, a payoff plan.

The interface is pleasant and easy to use, and includes context
sensitive help. All in all, it is an excellent program. If you are in
need of a specific plan to handle your debt, Debt Manager is easily worth
the download and $20 registration fee.

MINIBYTE BY BOBSIE [5 Lamps] I am impressed. As whizbang as my version
"""""""""""""""""""""""""""" of Quicken is, it can not do what Debt
Manager does. This sweetheart of a program is one of the better financial
programs I have seen in quite a while.

I was duly impressed by the quick menu and online help screens which,
when called up, took no time at all at displaying even on my old 8mhz XT
that uses a Hercules mono monitor. I could tell immediately that a lot of
time and effort went into this program's development. After all, the
authors even considered mono monitor users!

The screens are well laid out as well as well thought out and
everything worked as advertised. There is even a sample database provided
for you to use to become familiar with the operation of the program and to
practice some "what if" type functions.

As with all programs of this type, the proof, as they say, is in the
pudding. The authors include a disclaimer that basically disavows any
liability as to the results received using Debt Manager. All I can say
is, if it does half of what it says it will do to help you manage your debt
and saves you from paying a financial counselor, then your $20.00 will be
well spent! This program is becoming a permanent part of my financial
utilities.

Unfortunately, sometimes files are removed from the library after we
publish this magazine. In many cases, the removed file has been replaced
with an updated version of that file. If you can't find one of the files
listed here, there is a way to check for a newer version. Do a keyword
search on the library using a word that describes the file you are looking
for. Chances are, you will find a newer version of that file, or another
file that meets your expectations.

Well, that wraps it up for this month. Remember, this is just a small
sample of the files available in the IBM and Windows Roundtables. The next
time you are looking for that certain utility or application, head on over
the Software Library and, chances are, it will be there just waiting for
you to download.

DOCUMENTATION VERY GOOD
"""""""""""""
PD_Q COMMENTS Are you squeamish about using options on the command line?
""""""""""""" Do you feel GUI is better? Well, EZ CO*DE is somewhere in
the middle. I'm not sure if the screen qualifies as GUI, but it's
certainly easy enough to use (with one exception). EZ CO*DE certainly
eliminates the need to know any of the many parameters and options involved
with this collection of file compressors. However, you do need to be
somewhat familiar with the terminology involved to get around without the
documentation, which is very well written.

Speaking of documentation and the need or lack thereof, it took me
about 10 minutes to finally figure out how to create a new archive. That's
a lifetime in reviewer-seconds! The answer, of course, was in the
documentation, but I didn't realize until too late that I was looking at
the mouse tutorial and not the keyboard tutorial :\ Certainly not the
author's fault, but frustrating nonetheless.

EZ CO*DE lets you view both compressed and uncompressed files, a very
nice feature. It views the compressed files without decompressing to your
directory (it keeps one on the side for itself). It also adjusts to the
particular compression software you choose, so if a particular feature is
not available to .PAK, for instance, then EZ CO*DE recognizes that and
doesn't let you choose that feature.

One drawback in the keyboard mode is that the menu does not support
hot keys. Once you enter the menu through the Alt key, you're relegated to
the use of the arrow keys to make your selection. A minor inconvenience,
but different from how most menus work.

All in all, EZ CO*DE saves you time in trying to remember the plethora
of details amongst the group of compression software, and is worth a try.

Please note: EZ CO*DE supports CGA, EGA, and VGA.

Registration is $30. When you register EZ CO*DE, you will receive a
letter of confirmation, including instructions on how to replace the
registration message with your name and serial number. Registration
entitles you to the use of the version registered and ALL future versions
of EZ CO*DE ! It also includes technical support through EMail, US mail,
and telephone. EZ CO*DE is available from Usefull Concepts, 1303 B
Carlisle Drive, San Mateo, CA 94402-1917.

HI EVERYBODY! So, did you have any luck finding the Hairdressing
""""""""""""" Roundtable mentioned in the April (fools) issue? No, you
say? He,he,he... Sorry but I just couldn't resist. ;-)

Well, I hope everyone at least had a Happy Easter. Mine was the usual
going to Church in the morning and then off to the family gathering for
Easter dinner. So where is all this leading too? Well, I'll tell ya...
While I was having Easter dinner I was thinking about how much work good
old Grandma had to go through to make all this great food and how maybe if
I knew a little something about cooking, I might be able to help her out
next time. (Yes, I actually AM that nice of a guy :) So guess where I
decided to visit this month... oh, go ahead, take a guess... That's right!
The Food and Wine Roundtable. Here, you can swap your favorite recipes,
talk about kitchen equiptment, food preparation, starting a catering
business, writing a cookbook, wine-tasting, beer-brewing -- anything and
everything that has to do with food and wine is all here for the giving and
taking! And all are welcome here... even the average Joe who knows next to
nothing about cooking, etc. -- like me! <grin> They even have their own
monthly newsletter called Nibbles & Bytes, which keeps you up to date on
RoundTable happenings, etc.

So if your feeling guilty about not being able to help out good old
Grandma with Easter dinner and you want to make it up to her, or if you
just want to learn how to make your own beer <smile>, you owe it to
yourself to check out the Food and Wine Roundtable here on GEnie! Just
type FOOD to get there. But before you go, be sure and solve this month's
puzzle. It'll help you learn some of that cool Food and Wine jargon.
Until next time... Keep on smilin'! Thanks Grandma! :-)

Shoot Some Rays
"""""""""""""""
By Brad Biondo
[B.BIONDO]

Program Name : Super Mystery Box
Filename : MBOX251.ZIP
Library Area : 7
Program Number : 22515
File Size : 22,515
Program Type : Game, Thinking
Author : J. A. Montano
Version Reviewed: 2.51
File Type : Freeware / ($0)

[*][*][*]

FROM THE AUTHOR The standard Mystery Box equates to an 8 by 8 grid with
""""""""""""""" a total of 64 locations where atoms can be placed and 32
entry (or exit) locations surrounding the box. The object of Mystery Box
is to locate a number of atoms hidden in the closed box by shooting laser
rays into the box at any of these 32 different locations (or possibly more
as you'll see later). When the rays emerge from the box (they don't
always) at another location (or the same location) this information can be
combined with the same type of information from other rays to determine
where each of the atoms are positioned in the box. Points are scored
during the game by each ray, plus points are added at tally time for any
atoms whose locations are guessed incorrectly. The lower the final score,
the better. The atoms may be hidden by the computer or you can create some
competition by having a friend hide the atoms for you.

Double Mystery Box can be selected from the screen title page. As the
name implies, the standard 8 by 8 grid has been replaced by an 8 by 16
grid, doubling the number of spaces where atoms can be hidden.

To help you take some of the guesswork out of it, there are two new
types of rays that may be used in the Double Mystery Box

game.

Plasma Bolts react to atoms the same way the standard laser rays do.
The difference is that a Plasma Bolt is a very hot ray. So hot, in fact,
that the path of the bolt shines right up through the top of the box onto
your grid.

X-Rays also react to atoms identically to laser rays with one
exception. The first atom it encounters head on is invisible to it, hence
the name. That first atom, though, will absorb its X-Ray powers and it
will react thereafter as a regular Laser Ray. The atom, however, will
remain 'invisible' to the ray should the path of the ray bring it back in
close proximity to it. Just before an X-Ray is absorbed by an atom, or
exits the box, a tiny, but strong, light is emitted which is seen on the
grid. This lit square is very helpful in retracing the path of the X-Ray,
possibly giving you sorely needed information about hidden atoms that may
otherwise be 'unseen'.

As the name implies, the X-Bolt is a combination of the Plasma Bolt
and the X-Ray, but with an added twist. The X-Bolt will not display the
path of the ray until it senses the presence of an atom. Not just an atom
immediately in front of it, but any atom on either side of it which would
cause the ray to be deflected one direction or the other.

DOCUMENTATION EXCELLENT
"""""""""""""
PD_Q COMMENTS Waiting for summer to come to catch some rays? Well,
""""""""""""" download this one, and you can shoot some rays. What more
can I say? The documentation that comes with this _free_ game is
extensive, but I wanted to put enough of it above to entice you to try this
one out! I would imagine most of you gamers have seen Mystery Box or Black
Box in one form or another (either on a PC or on a table). But what you
may not have seen is the great variations Super Mystery Box offers.

As the author suggests, try out the regular game first. An 8 by 8
grid is plenty of challenge when you're just starting out. When you get
comfortable enough, graduate to Double Mystery Box, and try out the new
rays available. It takes some getting used to, but you can press Alt-F8 to
show where the atoms are, and then take some shots. This helps a lot to
learn exactly how the special rays work.

If you think this is all child's play, there's two more "levels".
Quad Mystery Box has a 16 by 16 grid for (quick, mathematicians) 256
possible locations for those pesky atoms to hide. The four rays explained
above are available. And if you're a diabolically clever person (or you
like inflicting mental pain on yourself <only kidding!>), try Super Mystery
Box, a 32 by 16 grid of 512 locations! Make sure you set aside some time
before attempting this! It can be detrimental to your productivity.

There is no registration fee. Super Mystery Box is provided free by
Joe Montano, of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Please note: the title screen
and Quad and Super Mystery Box requires at least an EGA monitor. This
implies that the Regular and Double games are available to those with less
resolution.

Enjoy!

CDP TAMES FEDERAL PROCUREMENT BUREAUCRACY On April 16, 1993, CD
""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" Publishing, Inc. unveiled their
new CD-ROM titled "Government Spending". This new title allows users
access to the Federal Procurement Data Center's database of federal
purchases. This initial title contains over 145,000 records of purchases
across many agencies of the federal government. Users can search
purchasing information sorted by over 40 different fields. It is now easy
to find what products the government is buying, who the vendor was, how
much was paid, which contractors are required to subcontract to small
businesses, and much more. This newly created CD-ROM offers businesses and
researchers valuable information on the federal government's buying
habits. The initial disc covers purchases for quarters 1-3 of FY92, with
continued update service available. The disc will normally retail for
$99.95; however, for a limited time CDP is offering it for $39.95.

CDP was formed in 1991 by two former Digital Equipment employees in

MAJOR CORPORATIONS STANDARDIZE Scotts Valley, CA -- May 4, 1993 --
ON BORLAND'S PARADOX FOR WINDOWS After only three months on the
"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" market, major corporations
nationwide are moving to standardize on Borland International's (NASDAQ:
BORL) Paradox for Windows database software.

More than 125 U.S. companies have adopted Paradox for Windows, and now
include the product among their accepted corporate software products. These
companies represent thousands of orders for the product, and many have
taken advantage of Borland's corporate Volume License Agreement (VLA).

"Corporate customers have stringent requirements for database
products," said Philippe Kahn, chairman, president and CEO for Borland.
"Paradox for Windows meets customer demands with its functionality and
robust features. From initial planning through product development, our PC
software applications were designed with the corporate customer in mind and
we are pleased that our customers are recognizing the strengths of our
products."

Companies that have adopted Paradox for Windows include: Arco
Chemical, State of Connecticut, Southern California Gas, Bank of America,
Fujitsu, State of Colorado, Southwest Airlines, State of Washington,
Chevron, Charles Schwab, Kaiser, Lucky Stores, Pacific Bell, State of Utah,
Varian, Rockwell, Paramount, Disney, Monsanto, Conoco, Texaco, New York
State Department of Corrections, State of Georgia, Delta Airlines, General
Accounting Office, US Air Force, Lehman Brothers and Memorial Sloan
Kettering Cancer Center.

"Paradox for Windows is the most amazing first release of a product
I've ever seen," said Dan Patterson, senior technical consultant, Arco
Chemical. "While I've been programming for 25 years, this is my first try
with object oriented programming, and I love what I can do with the
product."

According to Larry Taylor, State of Connecticut, "We've been able to
take advantage of Paradox for Window's object oriented environment and
build a "standard" application that is easy to modify for each division's
specific needs.

"We looked at PowerBuilder, but it was harder to get up to speed on.
What we needed was a product that wasn't too big to easily create small
applications, while still allowing us to work our way up to really
sophisticated applications. What we got with Paradox for Windows was an
easy-to-use package that could handle small, single-user PC application,
multi-user LAN applications and SQL server applications."

"Paradox for Windows is our recommended standard," said Jerry Lazarus,
Technical Planning Department, Southern California Gas. "It's a great first
release that enabled us to develop a number of applications that are
already up and running.

Volume License Agreements Borland's VLA program allows large companies
""""""""""""""""""""""""" to easily standardize on Borland products. The
VLA program offers aggressive, tiered discounts to companies willing to
make a volume commitment to Borland products. Through designated Borland
system integrators or others authorized by Borland to offer VLAs, customers
can continue to purchase products from their existing resellers.

Paradox For Windows Paradox for Windows brings an unmatched combination
""""""""""""""""""" of power, ease-of-use and sophisticated application
development to the world of data management. Paradox for Windows introduces
a powerful, visual, object-oriented way of working with data that lets
users easily build applications never before possible.

The product also provides complete and transparent connectivity to
both Paradox and dBASE data (including dBASE III+, dBASE IV, Paradox 3.x
and Paradox 4.0). For corporations that require access to data residing on
remote SQL servers, Paradox for Windows combined with Borland SQL Link
provides secure, transparent, high-performance access to a variety of SQL
database servers.

Paradox DOS and Windows Compatibility Existing Paradox DOS applications
""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" can be run from within Paradox for
Windows And both products feature the industry standard Query By Example
capability pioneered by Paradox more than five years ago. In addition,
Paradox for Windows is completely interoperable with Paradox DOS data. This
type of compatibility gives users a variety of transition options when
moving from DOS to Windows. Paradox for Windows and Paradox 4.0 (DOS)
share the same file format, allowing users to share data both seamlessly
and concurrently.

For millions of software developers and end users worldwide, Borland
International Inc. is the leader in application development software. A
pioneer in the use of object-oriented technology, Borland is committed to
offering the world's best database management, programming languages,

BORLAND FORMS CLIENT/SERVER DIVISION Promotes Dickerson to Head New Unit
"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif.--April 29,
1993--In response to the growing trend among major corporations to evolve
their data processing operations into client/server environments, Borland
International Inc. (NASDAQ:BORL) today announced it has established a
Client/Server Division. The new division will be responsible for research,
development and marketing of Borland's client developer tools, middleware
and server products in client/server configurations.

The company also announced that Rob Dickerson, 36, was promoted to
senior vice president and will head the new division.

"With huge amounts of data stored on Borland databases and a decade of
leadership in the development of programming and database tools, Borland is
in a unique position to help customers reap the benefits of client/server
computing," said Philippe Kahn, president, chairman and CEO, Borland
International. "This new division will help ensure a complete client/server
solution to customers, including superior technology, technical support,
service and training, and sales support and distribution."

The Borland Client/Server Solution Borland has developed and
integrated a broad range of advanced client tools, connected via a highly
capable middleware layer, to the most technologically advanced database
server. The goal is to provide best-of-breed solutions in each area, while
embracing open standards, thereby allowing customers to "mix and match"
products to best meet their needs.

Products to be managed by the Client/Server Division include the
InterBase server; upcoming SQL link products for Windows and current SQL
links for DOS; IDAPI middleware; and client developer kits based on desktop
products such as Paradox for Windows, and products under development, such
as dBASE for Windows.

Customers will be offered a broad range of high-end training, service
and support assistance, which is currently in place and being offered to
such InterBase customers as The Philadelphia Stock Exchange, Bear Stearns
and Chicago Reseach & Trading Group Ltd. InterBase has typically sold well
in these types of mission-critical applications; as a result, Borland can
offer the full range of client/server solutions, from desktop applications
to departmental client/server applications, to mission-critical
client/server applications. The client/server market is expected to grow
substantially in the years ahead according to leading market analysts.
According to Forrester Research, a Cambridge, Mass. computer industry
research company, forecasts for the client server market are will grow at
an annual compound growth rate of 70 percent from 1992 through 1996.

"Our strategy is to leverage our strength in the PC desktop market to
target departmental-level client/server needs, as well as retain our
strength in the mission-critical server market," said Rob Dickerson, vice
president, Client/Server Division. "Borland's unique technology strengths,
an approximately 70 percent market share of PC database products and our
ties with a developer community over 5 million strong provide an excellent
foundation for our continued emphasis on client/server solutions."

"As a client/server developer, we are using Borland tools for
applications being delivered to major corporations" said Paul Sharp, System
Reeng Inc. "We are excited about the integrated approach Borland is taking
in the database world; with Paradox for Windows and InterBase, you can
deliver a total solution that connects the desktop to every relevant
portion of company data using the latest user interfacing and application
techniques. The powerful combination of InterBase's multi-generational
architecture, IDAPI middleware and the object-oriented nature of Paradox
for Windows, surpasses anything else on the market today."

Borland's Object Component The Borland Object Component Architecture
Architecture: A C/S Foundation (BOCA) is Borland's client/server
"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" foundation. At the heart of this
architecture lies the InterBase Engine, core Borland technology which
ensures interoperability among Borland's client products, including
Paradox, dBASE, Quattro Pro and Borland C++.

Borland's most recently announced client developer product, Paradox
for Windows, has been built from the ground up in Windows to operate well
in a client/server environment and well as in standalone applications. It
offers the most sophisticated querying and reporting capabilities across
multiple data sources of any PC database product on the market. Using
Paradox for Windows, an end user can query multiple databases, including
dBASE, Paradox, Oracle and others, and rapidly present the information into
a single Paradox for Windows table, form or report.

Surrounding the InterBase Engine is an IDAPI middleware layer, which
serves as intelligent system software that supports existing standards and
connects a variety of clients to a variety of servers on a variety of
platforms. IDAPI is a platform-independent database connectivity solution
that meets customer needs by providing connectivity to both SQL and non-SQL
databases. IDAPI partner companies include Borland, IBM, Novell and
WordPerfect; over 40 additional companies have joined the IDAPI
standardization effort, including NEC, SyBase, Oracle, Pioneer and Gupta,
among others. IDAPI will be made available across a number of platforms,
including DOS, OS/2, Microsoft Windows, and NetWare. It is complementary to
Microsoft's Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) specification; any
ODBC-compliant database driver will be able to be accessed through IDAPI
without modification.

To access to the greater world of data, Borland is scheduled to begin
shipping SQL connections for its client products in the third calendar
quarter. Paradox for Windows, for example, will be able to access data from
InterBase, DB2, Oracle, SyBase, and Microsoft/Sybase SQL server, which far
surpasses the number of SQL connections available for other PC database
products on the market.

The final component of BOCA is the InterBase server, the leading
product on the market to support peer-to-peer networks with multiple,
distributed databases, which is the emerging client/server model. InterBase
also features high performance throughput in mixed-use environments,
superior data management, support for complex data such as graphics, video,
sound and rich text, and ease of use and maintenance.

For millions of software developers and end users worldwide, Borland
International, Inc. is the leader in application development software. A
pioneer in the use of object-oriented technology, Borland is committed to
offering the world's best database management, programming languages,
development tools, spreadsheets and applications software. Borland's
products include Paradox, Quattro Pro, dBASE, InterBase, Borland C++ and
Borland Pascal for Objects. Founded in 1983 by Philippe Kahn, Borland is
headquartered in Scotts Valley, California.

Cut & Paste Scripts For Aladdin
"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
Aladdin script by Jim Lubin
[JIM.LUBIN]

TURBO-ALADDIN! One complaint that I have received over and over
"""""""""""""" again from GEnieLamp readers was about getting
GEnieLamp via the slow, error-prone method of listing/capturing the
magazine. Well, we have come up with a solution that I think you'll
love. Now, instead of capturing the issue, you can download the
Lamp just like you would any other file found here on GEnie.

But we didn't stop there. Jim Lubin has come up with a new
Get_The_Lamp script that will download one or more of the GEnieLamp
issues off of page 515. Simple!

What Does It Do? When executed from within Aladdin, the Get_The_Lamp
"""""""""""""""" script will log on to GEnie, go to page 515 and download
the issue(s) automatically. After doing so, the script will then either 1)
Log off (depending on your "Stay" status in Aladdin) or move to a
GEnie*Basic page.

The Get_The_Lamp script has an option which will allow you to
get the magazine(s) at a preset time. You also have the option of
doing an autopass 1 or autopass 2 if you like.

Sound good? Just "cut out" the script below and follow the
installation procedures found at the end of this article. Any
problems, comments or whatever, send GE Mail to GENIELAMP or
JIM.LUBIN.

>>> HOW TO ADD THIS SCRIPT TO ALADDIN <<<
"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

Installing The Script First of all, you will need to separate this
""""""""""""""""""""" script from the magazine. To do this, just load
this magazine into any word processor or text editor, and cut or block this
script file out to it's own separate file and save it as LAMP02.SCR. (Our
thanks to Ed Perrone, Sysop, Astrology RT for these quicky instructions.)

Aladdin IBM Before you can use this script, you must add it to Aladdin.
""""""""""" You only need to do this once, and then the script will be
available every time you run Aladdin. Use the following procedure:

1. Copy LAMP02.SCR into the Aladdin directory on your computer.

2. Start Aladdin.

3. At Aladdin's Main Menu, on the bottom right-hand side of the
screen, you'll see a listing of scripts already contained in
Aladdin. The scripts will be numbered from 3 through 9.

4. Select a script number into which you will load this script. If
you have empty slots in the script listing, use one of them. If
all the slots already contain scripts, you'll have to delete one
of them before you can add this one. (If you have version 1.0 of
this script, delete it and replace it with this new version.)

5. Jot down the script number you've selected so you don't forget it.

6. Press F7 to enter Aladdin's script editor. The listing of scripts
will now be on the upper right of your screen.

7. If you need to delete an existing script to make room for this
one, press D. Then press the number of the script you wish to
delete. Aladdin will delete the script. (If you don't need to
delete an existing script, then skip this step.)

8. To add the new script to Aladdin, press A. Aladdin will place you
into the script editing window and display a "skeleton" new
script.

9. Press CTRL-Y several times to delete all the text that's displayed
in the editing window.

10. Press CTRL-K (Aladdin will beep), then press R. A dialog box
will open requesting a file name. Type LAMP02.SCR, then press
<ENTER>. Aladdin will read the script file into the editor.

11. Press CTRL-PgUp to move to the beginning of the script.

12. The first line of the script will read, "Script # Get_The_Lamp!"
Replace the "#" with the script number you'll be using (the
number you jotted down in step 5). THIS STEP IS IMPORTANT!

13. Now press <ESC> to save the script. When Aladdin finishes saving
the script, you'll be back at the script editor menu. Press
<ESC> again to return to the Aladdin's Main Menu. The new script
should now be listed in your list of Aladdin scripts -- and it's
ready to run!

AMI/ST ALADDIN
""""""""""""""

o Under the "File" menu, click on the "Edit User Script" option.
This will load in your current script file.

o Position the cursor at the end of your script file. Now, using the
"Paste File" option under "Edit" add the new script file.

o Change the # in the line SCRIPT # to reflect the script number
you've previously noted. For example, if you have already
installed 3 files, the line would like like this:

Script 6 Get_The_Lamp

o ESC to save
