Why another zine?
After several difficulties and a long period without activity, rfdslabs and Gotfault take the lead in what intends to rescue one of the best hacking epochs in Brazil, the zine era. Based on this context we decided to launch our own electronic magazine, The Bug! Magazine. A publication that intends to reach the public related to hacking and information security with periodical publications, as much as possible, in a 6 months interval.
The main idea of Gotfault and rfdslabs is to sow knowledge and grow the national hacker scene. The hacking in Brazil had its peak in 97/98/99 with a series of zines, lists and groups committed to study and disseminate the ideas of the information security branch, the most interesting/exciting of computing.
Zines like "Axur 05", "RwX", "Phone 9", "NearZ", "Hack 'n Phreak", among others, were extremely important to strengthen the later scene of the late 1990s. At that same time several groups and people created their own zines, some technically bad, others average. Still, these publications instilled the desire to learn in many people.
Certain groups, like Sekure SDI, reached international fame with their publications of articles, advisories and exploits. From this same Sekure SDI came a boy from Paraná named Marcelo "dumped" Tosatti, the current maintainer of the Linux kernel 2.4 series, and other big names in the world hacker scene. We also couldn't fail to mention Derneval Cunha, the editor of "Barata Eletrica" magazine, the guy who started the national hacking, and Nash Leon, from Unsekurity Scene.
Call for papers
rfdslabs and Gotfault would like to count on everyone's support. We are open to suggestions and paper submissions.
