Was Atlantis located in the Bermuda Triangle?

Atlantis: never has a legend or myth stimulated so much the human imagination. Novels and movies have repeatedly evoked the glories of the vanished continent inhabited by an extraordinarily advanced people. But Atlantis, assuming it ever really existed, where was it located and how did it disappear?

The first information

Plato spoke of Atlantis first, recalling a chronicle by Solon, one of the seven sages of Antiquity, who related that he had heard from an Egyptian priest:

"It was an island situated in front of what you (Greeks) call the Pillars of Hercules: it was larger than Libya and Asia combined and from it proceeded to other islands that formed a kind of bridge to the opposite continent... In the island a great and splendid empire was formed that ruled the whole island and many others and also part of the continent..."

The priest went on to minutely describe Atlantean cities and ports, impressive works of urban planning and exploitation of agriculture, as well as highly evolved forms of social order. So important was the Atlantean society, when other peoples were still practically in the Stone Age, that one would have to seriously wonder where it came from.

Nine thousand years before Solon, therefore, a series of violent cataclysms overshadowed, and eventually destroyed, a great empire, later submerging its ruins probably under what we now call the Sargasso Sea... and the Atlanteans who escaped that disaster may have scattered to the continents we know today.

But the account heard by Solon, if not proven by solid scientific evidences, runs the risk of appearing only as the clever attempt of a exponent of Egyptian culture at the time of impressing the naive traveler from a distant and respected land. Plato thought it was a veracious and very serious matter, and such was also the opinion of Socrates. After all, Plato was 24 years old when he first heard the account that the priest gave to Solon, from the mouth of Cirtia the younger, 157 years after Solon's death; pure oral transmission, therefore, whose relevance to the original story is impossible to establish and validate. On the other hand, Solon's visit to Egypt is dated, according to some scholars, in 590 BCE.

At that time, the great sage had been welcomed by Pharaoh Amasises, a
protagonist of a strongly pro-Hellenic policy. At that time, Greeks from various states lived in Egypt. The priest who conversed with Solon, probably devoted to the worship of the goddess Neith, stated, among other things, that he thought the Greeks were too young culturally in comparison with Egyptian knowledge from the very ancient past.

But even if this original tale had dealt with mere legends, moreover handed
down with the inaccuracies and exaggerations that we can easily imagine, how is it possible that they have come down to us with the same, enormous, emotional impact? The only documents in written form on the whole stories are precisely the Timaeus and the Cirtia, by Plato himself, but apart from a lengthy description of its origins and urbanization, these writings do not help us place the land geographically disappearing.

Delve into the past

Although it was obliterated by a huge cataclysm, it is possible that the ancient Atlantean civilization left some concrete traces of its existence? Many authors have worked to answer this question, among archaeologists, explorers, and casual travelers.

Example for all Ignatius Donnelly who, with his study published in 1882 impressed the audience of enthusiasts of the time in no small measure. In short, he theorized that near the Mediterranean were the earliest remnants of a submerged continent extending to the Atlantic: an immense island inhabited by an extraordinarily evolved and scientifically advanced society that had established colonies in Egypt and Mexico.

Tangible evidence to support such arguments? Zero. Donnelly's work, taken up later by other scholars, went so far as to date the ultimate disappearance of the last landmasses that were part of the of ancient Atlantis in 10,000 B.C. in a location that corresponds to the great ridge from Iceland to the South Atlantic, surface outcrops in the Azores, Ascension Island and Tristan.

Currently, most geologists deny that this formation is in any way related to the presence of the remains of a continent sank, attributing its uplift to some underwater volcanic activity. It therefore makes sense to continue to search for the vestiges of Atlantis in the Atlantic Ocean? Many researchers argue that there is no possibility that the ocean floor could, at some distant time, have emerged at some point to a considerable extent and enough to warrant the definition of a continental landmass.

Mysterious events

It is superfluous to recall here the countless theories, both of confirmation of the Platonic accounts and of outright denial about a historical or geographical location, which over the centuries have stratified in much the same way as the layers of pumice and volcanic debris that buried the Minoan civilization of Thera. I believe that the myth of Atlantis can find more effective confirmation in the mysterious facts recorded in ecisely more modern times. Indeed, if the myth of Atlantis is survived to the present day is because of completely extraordinary events that are almost always inexplicable to the rationality of the common man.

The Bermuda Triangle is located in a portion of the Atlantic Ocean between Florida, the Barbados Islands and Bermuda, partially enclosing the Sargasso Sea. It has been since at least the 1800s (but disturbing phenomena were narrated by the sea wolves of all times) that there is concrete evidence of the disappearance of ships and aircraft transiting the area.

I cite the most striking cases below.

  • 1492 - On September 15, just days before sighting the American coast, Christopher Columbus and his sailors noticed strange rotating lights in the sky and some unexplained disturbances in the ship's compasses. They were south of the Bermuda Islands.
  • 1800 - US Navy loses two ships: the USS. Insurgent and the USS Pickering disappeared without a trace or survivors of their many crews. Note the absence of any unfavorable atmospheric phenomena.
  • 1814 - Another American ship, the USS Wasp, disappears in the Sargasso Sea in weather conditions favorable to the navigation.
  • 1824 - same fate for the USS Wildcat.
  • 1840 - The French ship Rosalle, bound for Cuba, is found in the open sea completely deserted but with the cargo intact and the ship's equipment in perfect efficiency.
  • 1872 - A British-flagged brig north of the Azores Islands sighted a floating wreck, later identified as the Mary Celeste; there was no one on the ship, and the cargo in the hold was completely intact, as were the shipboard provisions and the valuables stored in the safe.
  • 1880 - HMS Atlanta, a British ship, set sail from Bermuda and disappeared after a few hours at sea, with 290 on board people including crew and student officers. The rescues Thoroughly scour the affected area without finding wreckage and shipwrecks, a circumstance unexplained by the proportions of the lost ship.
  • 1881 - Only a year later, still in the Azores Sea, the ship Austin sighted an abandoned sailing ship, intact but devoid of men on board. The captain of the Austin decides to leave some sailors on board. One of those short and intense storms typical of the area, and the two ships lose visual contact... But when the Austin finds the mysterious sailing ship, the men left on board are missing! Other brave sailors in turn board the cursed ship to take it to the nearest port, but after another storm, the ship disappears forever along with its new, makeshift crew!
  • 1918 - World War I is underway and obviously the war episodes are mixed up with other, mysterious disappearances of vessels, warships, and civilian and military crews. In March, a U.S. Navy ship, en route to Norfolk, disappears just past the Cuba's territorial waters, without sending requests for help, in excellent weather conditions and calm seas. Never anyone will be able to explain this mystery, later ascertaining that no enemy craft were present in those waters.
  • 1951 - Brazilian warship Sao Paulo disappears. on the night of October 3 without any alarm even from the two tugs escorting it a short distance away.
  • 1968 - Strange disappearances have also occurred under the water surface. For example, the submarine wreck Scorpion, of the U.S. Navy, was found many months after radio links were broken, inside the infamous Triangle, on a seabed about 2,000 meters deep. And with modern times, The disappearances of the planes begin!
  • 1945 - At the height of War II, planes departed from Fort Lauderdale disappear without a trace in the Bermuda Triangle area. In December, five Navy planes, which had taken off on a mission, disappear into thin air suddenly, after an hour's flight; a few minutes earlier, the Squadron leader notifies the base that he cannot establish position and course and that the instruments on board present incomprehensible anomalies. Incidentally, in subsequent dramatic radio communications, the poor officer will describe the sea below his device in grotesque terms... Then silence. Immediately, the rescue planes from Fort Lauderadale. They are joined by Mariner seaplane, which took off from Banana River. But as early as twenty minutes after takeoff, this plane, too, disappears into thin air. Searches for the aircraft will continue unabated, but no trace can explain in the slightest these incredible disappearances will ever be reported by the Navy. The commission of inquiry concluded its report with this sentence: ...The six airplanes vanished completely, as if flown to Mars.
  • 1947 - The memory of the six planes that disappeared two years earlier is still vivid and a harbinger of disturbing questions, when in July of that year, an Army Superfort U.S., flying a reconnaissance mission to Palm Beach, disappears into thin air. Again, more massive rescue operation and no results. The nightmare begins to become tangible and the area is considered a high-risk...

From then to now, disappearances of small planes and ships have been multiplied throughout the Triangle area and also in other areas Atlantic. Only rarely, as in the case of the two Boeing KC - 135s that departed from Homestead base, will the wrecks be found--and always under circumstances that are mysterious to say the least.

Some assumptions

If there really was an Atlantean civilization, it can be disappeared only because of a tremendous natural upheaval, roughly 12,000 years ago. Probably, a tidal wave of apocalyptic proportions plunged the vestiges of a highly advanced society, perhaps of extraterrestrial origin, into the waters of the Atlantic.

If so, the source of their energy could still be intact and magnetically influence the vast area identifiable with the Bermuda Triangle. It is also all too easy to see some similarities with the well-known Philadelphia Experiment.

To conclude this brief account by quoting Dr. Manson Valentine himself, who for many years has been collecting evidence on the origin extraterrestrial of the human race: if Atlantis was founded by members of an alien people, it is to be expected that after the disaster that brought about the end of that civilization, the survivors landed on other continents, appropriately instructing the human race who in their eyes must have appeared savage and primitive. Thus one could explain the birth of the Inca Empire: Manco Capac, the demigod to whom the legends attribute this remarkable feat, had come from the splendid opening ...

What does it mean?

M.K. Jessy, Valentine's friend, tried to explain it with the adventure of Admiral Byrd, a well-known explorer in his day, who first flew over the South Pole in 1929. During that flight, he radioed a message with a very bizarre content, explaining that he was having passed through a vast opening from which came a green glow, and having seen a great green land with rivers, beautiful lakes, populated by herds of grazing animals and men primitives. The video footage taken by the admiral was later shown on news reports at the time but, strangely enough, were almost immediately seized by U.S. military authorities who also organized other expeditions in search of the land lost...

Unnecessarily, as Jessy observes, as Byrd's journey ran into precisely one of those phenomena due to fields magnetics responsible for both the events in Philadelphia and the numerous disappearances of men and vehicles in the Cursed Triangle. Probably, the valiant flying admiral, saw our planet in an earlier era, on a real journey back in time, as real as the film that showed the world that scene so vividly from his past.

This article certainly did not say anything new to the true enthusiasts of the subject, however, I cared to make certain connections that few authors have had the courage to draw.
