Ataide Ferreira da Silva Neto, president of the Association of UFO and Psychic Research of Mato Grosso (AMPU), cites ancient legends of the local Indians who tell of ancient times, when small tall beings lived among their ancestors six feet tall, with enormous heads compared to their bodies, having three, four or even six toes on each foot.

Those beings lived in caves and were said to have come from the stars.

A similar story is told by the Xingu Indians of the Amazon and is also known in other regions of the area. It is said of a vehicle covered in fire, which descended from the sky and transported beings who taught arts and knowledge to the Indians, and then left again towards space.

In the Blue Mountain National Park, in Barra do Garças, there is a cave with fossil footprints of four- and six-toed feet (see photo).

Elder Monteiro Antunes, coordinator of the Conservation Unit of the State Secretariat for the Environment (SEMA), says of these footprints:

"We intend to soon develop an archaeological study, to be able to understand how they were formed, whether it is a natural phenomenon or some aboriginal tribe that made those signs, thousands of years ago. There could be several explanations, but none of them are certain."
