My own feeling is that the NY Times "editorial" on UFOs was strongly
anti, not tolerant or pro, as your correspondent seems to think. But it
was worded with such oblique sarcasm I did a double-take on reading it.
They couldn't be saying there WAS something to UFOs! And when I looked
carefully at the last paragraph, seemed to me they were throwing more
barbs. What they seemed to do, as I read them, was reverse a hoary old
pro-UFO argument: "Science used to think stones didn't fall from the
sky, but now we know better. So now they think UFOs don't exist, butu
soon they'll know better."
The NY Times reversal of this seemed to be: "Now people think UFOs
**do** exist, but in the future they'll understand how dumb that was."
But by all means post the thing, so we can all parse it for ourselves.
Additional point: this wasn't one of their major editorials, the
equivalent of their commentary on, let's say, Bush's "war" on drugs. It
appeared at the bottom of the editorial page, in a space that usually
carries lighter, even humorous items. Not quite where they'd have run
the thing if they really were changing their mind, seems to me.

Just a curious thought that occurred to me . . . have there been any
black people who say they've been abducted (apart from Barney Hill, of
course)?
Can't recall any in any of the literature I've read. Though if the
population is supposedly being randomly sampled, then the proportion of
black abductees ought by now to be more or less the proportion of
blacks in the population.
Unless black people don't report their abductions, which might be
understandable . . . maybe they'd feel alienated from the
overwhelmingly white UFO community, maybe they'd feel they were doubly
stigmatized -- they had an "illegitimate" experience, PLUS they were
black -- and would thus be reticent.
Or are the UFO entities racist, and thus not interested? (Especially if
the Nazis are behind it. Or if the long-haired blonde Aryans are in
charge . . . just kidding. Though racist grays wouldn't be any weirder
than lots of other stuff that's been reported . . . )
Anyone have any info/thoughts on this?

I just received a report from a news paper reporter who said she talked to a
family in OK, who said they drove right up on a UFO that had landed in the
road. She said the beings that got out of it were 8 to 10 ft tall and were
glowing a green color. She said they were taller than the craft they got
out of, but the craft completely blocked a two lane road. She said they got
out of their craft, walked around a bit, got back in and took off.
I don't have all the facts on this one yet but it sounds remarkably like the
Russian landing. This landing was said to have been 10/13/89, yes on Friday
the 13th.
At the same time though the police department there reports there have been
40 + UFO sighting reports that have come in since Friday the 13th. The
officer I have been talking with says they are giving their names,
addresses, phone numbers, etc. Two of his own officers have witnessed
"something" flying low over the city and not making a sound. Green stated
that he was sure the people were seeing something, but he thinks it might be
military in origin.
The reporter called me because Officer Green had given my number to her for
more information. The reporter called me asking if I knew (or had
discovered) if there were any secret military operations being conducted in
that area. She stated that she had been informed that the military had and
was testing some new Top Secret Stealth helicopters and thought they might
be testing them in this area of OK because of the topography of the land
being so much like the USSR. I feel that her informer might not have had
all the information she was looking for and so she called me to see what I
knew about it. I don't doubt the military is working on some type of
stealth helicopters, but even one that had a totally silent engine would
still "bat the wind" enough with the rotors that you could hear something.
One thing that I have run into while investigating UFO's is that on two
different UFO cases that I have looked into, the witnesses who had close
sightings of the UFO's state they were aware of both the military flying
around and popping flares overhead, while at the same time the UFO's were
making low passes over farmer's fields. The witnesses said it was easy to
tell the difference between the flares and the UFOs. This tells me that the
military is aware of the UFOs and is trying to cover it up. The newspaper
story said "UFOs Explaned" as military, etc etc. Going from this I believe
that if the UFOs are in OK then so is the Military. The description of the
one UFO that was seen by the two police officers and the woman it sounds
like they saw the bottom of one of the large blimps we talked about in the
past. This one flew directly over the city of Miami, OK without making a
sound.
I was to have gone up there today and talk to some people, but I have a job
coming in and am unable to leave at this time.
Any information that anyone can get for me I will add to my records and make
inquiries as soon as I am able. Thank you.

Taking a few moments to go back through these messages, as last time I went
through them very quickly.
Considering earthquakes and UFOs and keeping in mind the "mind helmet" you
mentioned in the past, could it be possible there is a magnetic reaction
during an earthquake that might cause certain people to "hallucinate" a UFO
or "lights in the sky" or something ?
On the other hand, perhaps the UFOs are watching the earthquake and keeping
records of their own.
