I'm not sure of the time or local station, but "I-Witness Video" claims to have
video (looks like "Starlight" equipment used on the cameras) of folks making
crop circles in England. I don't know from the promo whether it is old news
(the two old guys claiming to have done it all, which we know to be impossible)
or if this is something much more interesting.

I, for one, want to be watching!

+ Bhagavad-gita provides a simple solution by postulating that
+ consciousness in the material body is due to the presence of an entity
+ fundamentally different from matter. Given the difficulties philosophers
+ and scientists have run into in trying to understand consciousness as
+ patterns of material elements, they should think about this solution.

We haven't had chance to experiment yet. It is probably a little
early to assume the existence of a deus ex machina.

I suspect we will end up in the situation wryly described by
Stanislaw Lem in his 1986 novel, Fiasco. A computer is built which is
capable of perfect impersonation of a human. It is completely
indistinguishable from a human and by any test anyone applies it is
conscious. Its builders hope that they will finally discover the
secret, until one day it asks _them_ what consciousness is, because
_it_ certainly doesn't know. After that, nobody bothers with the
question any more, and no more humanlike computers are built, because
there obviously isn't any point.

TD> The Virginia story occurred on September 14, 1992 in
TD> area of Sutton in Braxton County.

Must be a typo, couldn't have been a few months ago??

TD> "SUTTON, September 14 - (UP) - Seven Braxton County
TD> residents vowed that a "
Frankenstein" monster with BO... [...]
TD> "
. . . She said the "monster" exuded an overpowering odor "like
TD> metal: that so sickened them they vomited for hours afterward.
TD> Her eldest son has been placed in intensice care in what
TD> appears to be a coma.

Why do these creatures always stink to hign heaven? In every account
I've ever heard or read the creatures, regardless of how they looked or
acted, always stunk like last years jock strap... I've wiffed some
nasty odors in my time but I can't imagine an odor so stinky that it
would put someone in a coma...!

Is there any description of the UFO/Craft itself?

TD> When asked what he meant by again, he responded -
TD> "
Oh, you know, all those lights at night and stuff.
TD> The judge asked him to elaborate on "stuff." He only
TD> said, "No one knows what them are - but they show up 'bout
TD> every night. We don;'t take no reckon of 'em any more."

TD> That singular line got more investigators interested than
TD> anything else the hapless fellow could have said.

I can imagine the interest from that one can't-reel-it-back-in-now
statement...<grin>

TD> Consider, too, that the witnesses had a great deal of trouble
TD> describing what they had seen - none of them - not one -
TD> had ever read a science fiction story.

Yes indeed, but they all agreed that it stunk... How could it stink
that bad and still register as a stinky odor to a human? (The point I'm
making is that as humans we know what stinks from what doesn't because
we were told about it as children... Personally, I'd rather eat week
old cat food that eat fresh brussel sprouts because I'm capable of
detecting brussel sprouts being cooked from _MILES_ away. The smell
almost makes me sick. However, I'm old enough to know why I react that
way: I can remember my father coming home from work commenting that he
could smell them from the other side of town... Also, I have friends
who, for all apparent purposes, seem to enjoy not just that horrible
smell but I have even seen them consume those horrible vegetable-like
items - yet I don't consider them to be demented people...)

The point, or question, is how did they know it stunk?

TD> Curiously, several stories appeared at intervals of
TD> about 6 months - each lessening the import of the
TD> incident. Each one of them carried a Sutton date line -
TD> and all came from one source - Washington DC.

These would be the ones worth checking out. Do you have these stories
avaliable?

Thanks, take care.
John.

Well I very much appreciate your so-called "antiquated memory circuits"
hanging in there through the frazzlement! <grin> I'll consider myself
lucky to have learned half of what you've temporarily forgotten.

TD> ...and it separated

Very clear.

TD> Medical records of one Doctor Hughs at the Underwood

I'd like to follow up on this. If you have other details I would very
much appreciate hearing them.

TD> I am not aware of the Haddonfield connection you mentioned
TD> relative to Halloween movies (I saw the first one, hated it and
TD> haven't seen any of the others).

Oh, there's no connection at all, just a similarity in names. The
Halloween movies are sort of a generation-rite. As a 60's child I had
the opportunity to experience all sorts of early genres and the
so-called "monster movie" was one of my favorites. In other words I
grew up with Godzilla so Halloween wasn't a big deal...<grin>

TD> Finally, Crawford County...If he finds what I hope
TD> he finds, I'll share it with you - but privately.

That's fine. Here's my address and number. My answering machine,
(wife's voice because she says I have a rough voice and scare off her
friends <grin>), is almost always on but I will return the call.

By the way, Santa did get flight clearance again this year from the FAA, so
if anyone see's something strange flying on the evening of the 24th, remember

Hi Tom... very interesting story. Especially since I live in
Skokie, IL, which is the village just east of Niles. I also
subscribe to three of the "neighborhood" papers (which include
newsworthy events occurring in the Niles area), and have heard
virtually nothing of this mysterious disappearance.

Please provide me with details of the publication that reported
this event, and I would be happy to investigate further. I'll bet
you a steak dinner (or tofu & brown rice if you happen to be a
vegetarian) that I can resolve this report prosaically.

Take care,

"Must be a typo, couldn't have been a few months ago??"
Boy, is my face red - of course 1992 is in error on my part.
(Comes from typing while trying my best to sleep) I think you will
find 1954 a better reckoning.
"Is there any description of the UFO/Craft itself?"
Only the globe of light.
"Why do these creatures always stink to hign heaven?"
You've got me on that one. All-in-all, I am unaware that a
large cases relate an odor. On the other hand, if there is an odor, it
may be fuel residue from power plants, auora discharge - dozens of
things other than the creatures - even a shared bit of their atmosphere
from an open portal. The possibilities are endless.
"The point, or question, is how did they know it stunk?"
Clearly they were uneducated people and referring to any standard
they could bring up from within their own experiences. To that
particular group of people at their own particular level of experience
- the thing (or its environment) stank.
