Welcome to the DOOM editing mailing list
This is the original welcome message from 1995
Hi,
Welcome to the DOOM editing mailing list. To post to the list, send mail to
doom-editing@nvg.unit.no
(NOT to doom@nvg.unit.no, that's a user). Your message will be forwarded to the list the next time the mail queue is processed (currently it's processed every two hours).
If you find the traffic a little overwhelming at times, subscribe to doom-editing-digest@nvg.unit.no instead.
So what is this list for?
DOOM-editing is dedicated to all aspects of doom editing, primarily doom level editing using the editor of your choice (e.g. DEU, Dmapedit, Doomed, DoomCad...) but also doom sound, music, graphics and even DOOM.EXE hacking can be discussed. So basically.. if you're modifying DOOM in any way.. this is were to discuss it. (Note that this should be done in accordance with id's copyrights only.)
In short, this list is for WAD builders, people who write editors and other DOOM addon utilities. People interested in making DOOM look/sound/feel different after having beaten all 3 episodes on UV.
Sounds good... what doesn't DOOM-editing cover?
DOOM-editing does not cover any of the following: tips for novice DOOM players (or advanced ones for that matter), cheat codes (everyone should know them by now!), stuff thats in the FAQ(s) (RTFM, dudes!), modem/network connectivity stuff, rumors about DOOM/Quake/id, ethical debates on DOOM, DOOM competitions, WAD reviews, and anything else thats not related to DOOM editing (hence the name :)
Great.. is there a Editing FAQ yet?
Please get the FAQ's and tutorials available on rec.games.doom.announce and the other related newsgroups. They are available on ftp.cdrom.com and ftp.idsoftware.com as well. If you've access to www, you should have a lookt at http://cres1.lancs.ac.uk/~esasb1/doom/index.html and follow the links.
Is there a doom-editing list FAQ?
The most important user available commands for majordomo are, in short summary, invoked by posting a mail:
To: majordomo@nvg.unit.no
Subject:
with the command within the body of the message:
subscribe <list> [<address>] // subscribe
unsubscribe <list> [<address>] // unsubscribe
which [<address>] // on which lists is address?
help // get command description
end // ignore following lines
In our case, list is "doom-editing" (or "doom-editing-digest"), and usually you shouldn't need to mention an address (defaults to the location the command has been sent from). Use "help" to get a more detailed explanation, and the complete list of available commands.
Who is managing the list?
The doom-editing list caretaker has been Joost Schuur (founder), followed by Tom Holmes. At the moment, list caretakers are
Steve Benner S.Benner@lancaster.ac.uk
B. Bernd.Kreimeier@nero.uni-bonn.de
If you've got any problems related to doom-editing administration details, please contact us via private email.
Anything else i should know?
Nope.. not really.. welcome to the list and live long and proper (expect for those darn imps of course ;)
