Gawd, yes! Any movies made by a company that's into games also are most
definitely out, as far as major projects are concerned.

This new WAD project sounds great...it has renewed discussion in this group
100 times. I've just returned to find several hundred messages ranging from
editor wars to the new WAD project. I think DEU is still the best editor and
the engine should be Heretic -- not to add fuel to the fire.

Could someone please post 1) how to unsubscribe and 2) how to subscribe
(resubscribe)...I'm certain everyone could do without reading "on vacation"
as much as the "mail read" notification messages. Thanks.

Subject: Back to Hell-Doom ]I[

I was talking to a friend and he pointed out that even though doom2 was
really kool the theme of Hell seemed to be the most intense. I can't think
of any theme that would be more intense. If we could turn the player back to
Hell. Make it look more like Hell. Maybe put a few very demonic-looking
creatures into it. Make it even more difficult. Maybe after the
destruction of the Boss Brain we could say that some ultimate evil
being(Satan maybe?) seeks to exact revenge on you. The ground opens up
and swallows you into a world that is makes your trip to inferno pale in
comparison.

This idea seems simple enough to carry out and lets the doom theme continue.
And the ultimate evil being -make him near impossible to kill. I found the
boss brain too easy, once you know how to do it. Cyberdemons were too easy
if you had plenty of room or plenty of cover.

Now consider this though. DOOM2 may store the maps in a map01, map02..map32
scheme, but it still behaves as though they're segmented into episodes in as
far as that you get intermission screens after certain levels.

Subject: Re : the Wad

Please excuse me is this message is a bit out of date as I have just found
none of my mail has gone out for the last couple of days. I will also mail
extracts of this to the people co-ordinating the project, I've been talking
in a vaccumm and i want to SHOUT.

1.
Yes I think the project should be split into 2 parts.
I would prefer doom 1 for the wad only project ( it's going so fast I
wouldn't have time to get use to a new interface to allow
me to edit doom ][.)
I have no experience using Dehacked so I can't comment on what we should
use for the complete replacement project.

2.
I like the Scientific study of hellspawn, or mutagen experiment themes
which have been proposed. They would give a completely new story without
needing new graphics, although the humans with plasma rifles or rocket
launchers sound really quite good. ( Perhaps a dehacked/graphics patch
could be written to patch the levels patch )

3.
I like the idea of designing the levels to match the names in the EXE
file, it would give the levels designers a general idea for the levels,
which I think is a always the hardest thing in my opinion.

4.
I would like to help with the wad only project. I would be willing to do
a couple of levels from the middle of an episode say EXM3 or EXM4,
although as I haven't been editing for too long they might take me 2-3
weeks each ( this is for total completion, does the person who said they
could complete one in 3 days do anything else ? ). But note that I will
lose all internet access from 17th March to the 24th April due to Easter
holidays, but this does mean that I will get more time to work on doom. I
haven't had any DM experience, but I get the general idea on how to make
the level DM playable.

5.
Does anybody know what can be put on a web page in the way of doom graphics
screen shots etc? Hopefully I'll have a home page soon, and I don't want
to upset id.

Oh BTW thanks to those people who sent me E-mail confirming my send, I
think that several of servers won't send external mail.

Sorry if this is a duplicate.

Hope I'm not dissapointing anybody here, but it looks like most of the
committed people have signed up to work with Enigma, so that's where me and
my web page are goin'. If a group is still planning to do a total
conversion, I will dedicate a page to it, if the info is submitted in an
orderly fashion! Let me know when that project gets a co-ordinator.

PFME Alpha 8 was released with fully functional undo last week. I don't
know if anyone else had it before then.

Alpha 10 will have autosave that saves part of the undo buffer :)

One of these days I'll have to start declaring it Beta :)

I once picked the option where you turn a pair of linedefs into walls of a
staircase (great idea. I have to steal that one), then I deleted the
separating linedefs, joining the sectors. The result was a small mess
(unclosed sector). It was probably because the original sector was NOT genus
one. It had two discontiguous bits.

*plug for PFME* I painstakingly hack every operation until it is nigh
bulletproof. I was always disappointed when I tried to do something slightly
screwy in DEU and it would lock or mangle sidedefs. Of course, someone out
there is going to do something I didn't think of and lock mine. Oh well. As
long as they send a bug report...

I may be overreacting to those last couple editor mails, but, please,

There's a line between discussion and argument, and when it gets crossed,
it tends to generate alot of spam.

So, as of this point, we've got two projects: Enigma's and...er..the
other one, with the staffbot. Which one is doing which? Before we all
split to wad-team, I just wanna get this straight so I don't cross any wires.

Just a suggestion (which may be obvious): make the first pair of coords
in the text file be an "origin" inside the PWAD's space, and everything
after that be relative to the PWAD--this will save a lot of typing--if I
recall, the ranges of x and y values inside a PWAD are ridiculously huge.

If we have this many people on the team, I think we can afford to be picky
level wise. Why don't we have everyone create 2 levels (or 3 if they want
to) and then we go through and pick the 27 (or 32) best and most coherent
levels.

Mmm... I have a MIDI keyboard, but I still can't get the MIDI-In on my SB16
to work. Skilled musician? Hah. Hardly. And I don't think I could pull
off 30 some differetn music tracks, much less 20 or 25 like they have in
DOOM.
