... 's the fun in just sending her straight over with her memory intact? The big fight scene against the Phantom Zone criminals takes place in _Superman_ #22 (an all Byrne issue), but Supergirl is quickly taken out of the action by the combined heat vision of Zod and Zaora. Supergirl's body turns into an oozing purple form and falls to Earth. Lex stops Superman from going after her, mysteriously saying, "the protomatter will regenerate itself soon enough." There is no time for further explanation until the fight ends and a dying Lex confesses, "sorry ... about the deception ... with Supergirl. Lana was one ... of the first killed. ... s Earth one more time in a three part story arc called "The Supergirl Saga" that ran in _Superman_ #21, _Adventures of Superman_ #444 and, _Superman_ #22. The arc was John Byrne's final, and most controversial, story during his Superman run. _Superman_ #21 opens on a scene of devastation as tremendous forces barrage a dome containing a golden citadel. All around the dome is a cratered wasteland. Inside the dome a group of men and women desperately discuss their plan to recruit Superman to assist them. The story cuts to Superman, who is flying through the blue skies of Kansas when he senses someone following him. At super speed, he circles around ...

Curt Swan did indeed draw the story, with inks by (I think) Mike Esposito and a script by (he's confirmed it) Jim Shooter. What's interesting is that [Drew] never mentions the fact that this story guest-starred The Flash (Barry Allen), with whom Superman switched identities and, at the end, exchanged the secrets of their identities with each other! ========================================= From: Kumanan Wilson (kumanan.wilson@sympatico.ca) I think the biggest problem with Superman today is th ...

... mer, rewarded with many gold coins from Daniel's coffers. Perhaps this could be considered an enjoyable story on its own, but when I look back on JLA #22 I ask, "what happened? Where did the imagination go?" The Dreaming setting was, frankly, boring. I understand that in the first half, they were going for the small-town, "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" look, but when IT reveals itself, *something* visually interesting could have happened. Why, then, was he unable to use anything but physical force when battling ...
