... iggyback.) B: Do you have to ride someone piggyback in every story you write? T: Yup! It's one of Sheila's Rules For Writing Stupid Parodies. #82, in fact. B: Well, as long as you're riding, you might as well have proper form. Decide if you're riding English or Western style. I would recommend Western style for you because you're a beginner. Now, tuck in your heels, hold the reins-er, ears-straight- T: Dang it, Kindsey, you're messing up my concentration! I'm gonna fall off! ... un on _Superboy_ (up to issue #30) was well regarded and had lots of fans. Two notable stories during this period are the Zero Hour issue, _Superboy_ #8 and the 1995 Year One themed _Superboy Annual_ #2. With all of the strange events happening during Zero Hour, probably the most welcome was the return of the Silver Age Superboy. A freak storm forces a plane carrying Superboy, Dubbilex, and Krypto to land outside Smallville. The original Boy of Steel materializes and helps rescue the plane. With neither Superboy aware of the other, they both head into Smallville. While the current model shows off for the locals, young Clark Kent strolls down th ...

... eadly kryptonite radiation to attack Superman, the Eradicator absorbs the blast and alters it, channeling it into Superman to restore him (_Superman_ #82). The Eradicator's ruined and apparently mindless body is delivered to STAR Labs. In _Action Comics_ #693, the body is examined by several scientists, including Dr. David Connor. Connor is a grumpy bugger whose problems are compounded by a nasty recent divorce and incurable cancer. He explains that the Eradicator's body has apparently restored itself, but that there is still no sign of any brain activity. Connor's illness causes him to stumble against the controls to the chamber containing the ...

... ish right away. In Nekton's defense, he is the genesis of a couple of plot points. First, Superman thinks he's an escapee from the monster rampage in #85, so it stands to reason Simyan and Mokkari might want their property back. Second, Superman thought Nekton might be able to watch over the nearby harbor, so maybe he might take a place in the supporting cast. Fortunately for him, Nekton's creators will actually be around in six months -- which is more than I can say for Cogito, Strange Visitor, or even Scorn (remember him?) -- so we might actually get to see him again. As always, *very* nice artwork from Mahnke and Nguyen. If nothing else, Nek ...

... I like to think of what I wrote as a novel. AW: I've read that your first comic book story, "What Can One Man Do?", which appeared in _Green Lantern_ #86, was originally a term paper for a course in American Media. What point were you making in your term paper, and how did it relate to the theme of the story? ES!M: "What Can One Man Do?" was actually the largest part of that particular term paper. It was a course on American history, for a section on media. The point I was making was that a comic book story, effectively directed, could be not just an entertainment but an ideological tool as well. I wanted to illustrate that the comic book mediu ...

... on me." The issue ends with that wonderful laughter from the Time Trapper. The two Superman issues are written and penciled by John Byrne. _Superman_ #8 is dedicated to the memory of Edmund Hamilton -- one of the well known science fiction writers that Superman editor Julie Schwartz convinced to write comics for DC. While we're on the topic, _Legion of Super-Heroes_ #38 is dedicated to the memory of E. Nelson Bridwell, who had a long history with DC, Superman, and the Legion. It's particularly appropriate that these writers be acknowledged during a story about the Time Trapper -- a reminder that time is the ultimate thief. Byrne obviously began ...
