SVGA AIR WARRIOR by Kesmai, published and distributed by Konami Reviewed by Robin G. Kim I went vertical after the head-on pass, causing him to lose sight of me as I maneuver onto his six. The pilot of the FW190A finally spots me again and breaks hard left. I line him up and pull way back on the stick of my P-51D, dragging the nose toward the hard turning Focke-Wulf. My vision dims as the G's build, till I'm on the verge of blacking out. Airspeed is bleeding off rapidly, but I keep the pressure on. As I slowly bring him into my sights, my plane begins to buffet violently. The stall light is flashing, telling me that I'm right on the edge...

BATTLES OF DESTINY by QQP Reviewed by James D. Pipes QQP is at it again, putting out yet another way to take over this world and many others. Battles of Destiny (BOD) is a solid entry into the genre of Empire-like games that has arisen over the last few years. BOD is a strategic game with overtones of tactical considerations. The maps are built out of the now-traditional squares, and they wrap around into donut-like toroids. The units are little drawings of infantry, tanks, planes and the like, although they are neatly executed (heh heh heh) and erupt into little puffs of battle whenever they meet the enemy. The grapics require EGA or VG...

AIR FORCE COMMANDER by Impressions Reviewed by David Pipes Impressions is a fairly new company on the American market, and as such its products are not quite as well known to gamers as the more established firms. But if Air Force Commander is any indication, they will soon be known for interesting strategy games with solid gameplay. Air Force Commander is another wargame set in the Middle East. Having said that, there is really no other quite like it. It is not turn-based like usual SSI-style wargames, but instead goes for continuous, pseudo- realtime play. It uses no hexes, depending on a huge scrolling map of the entire region. Supply ...

Once again, Game Bytes is proud to present more than one opinion of one of the most popular and comprehensive games of the year, DARKLANDS. This game has a lot going for it, yet is quite controversial because of some very nasty bugs. Note: To players with versions .04 or .51, a bug fix to version .60 is available on many FTP sites, Compuserve, America On-Line and directly from Microprose. We strongly urge you to play DARKLANDS only with this new version. There is some rumor that a version .70 might be available soon also. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- DARKLANDS by MicroProse Reviewed by Johnny...

OUT OF THIS WORLD by Delphine, Distributed by Interplay Reviewed by Alexander Hobson Rating: 4 1/2 out of Five Review machine is a 386/40 PC equipped with a SoundBlaster Pro. Users of Amiga and ST machines have been enjoying this instant classic for some time now. Since seeing an Atari ST demo for the game this Christmas, I anxiously awaited the PC version of Out Of This World. Fortunately for PC users, OOTW has finally arrived at our desktops. After two weeks of experiencing this game, I have realized that this game was worth waiting for. You are Professor Lester Knight Chaykin. Your scientific knowledge and hard work have broug...

THE MAGIC CANDLE II by Mindcraft Software, Inc. Reviewed by Peter Palij Reviewed on a 9 MHz PC/AT with Color VGA. Requires about 5 MBytes of disk depending on number of saved games. Heroes from Magic Candle I and from The Keys to Maramon may be used. Quick Summary: Less interesting and challenging than the original Magic Candle, MAGIC CANDLE II offers a few new game playing features and removes the original system's ability to independently control several parties. Given the limited changes from the original (primarily in the form of an automatic note-taking system and somewhat better quality graphics), why was MAGIC CANDLE II's rele...

NCAA Basketball: Road to the Final Four by Bethesda Softworks Reviewed on 386/33 with Souundblaster by David Masten Ever in search of good sports games, I took a chance on Bethesda Softworks' NCAA Basketball: Road to the Final Four. The premise of the game is that you control the fortunes of any or all of the 64 teams in last years NCAA men's tourney. I should have heeded the box blurb proclaiming: "from the creators of Wayne Gretzky Hockey and Earl Weaver Baseball [EWBB]". For those who read my review of EWBB II, you are probably surprised that I would buy a sibling. Fool me twice, shame on me. Like EWBB, you can control the players...

Chessmaster 3000 - A Review by Thom Vaught (Chess Beginner/Novice) As I mentioned above, I am not a chess expert. I've never played in a tournament. I also have never played a rated player. Therefore, I will not be evaluating the challenge of the game. Someone else with more experience will perhaps do that. I will review the game based on its functionality (what it does), usability (how easy it is to accomplish things), and utility (its usefulness). Functionality: Chessmaster 3000 (CM3k) has the functionality that most Beginners-Intermediates would expect. However it adds some new twists. The review of functionality is divided into s...
