This section will give you some information regarding this application. But if you are in a survival situation right now - please skip this blurb and directly jump to the section that contains the information for your current top most problem/need. This app is intended to guide you in rough times but can also be used for having fun outdoors and teach you things. And the fun part can even be used to train important skills for potential survival situations. Reading is only one part - practice and understanding are also really important. The app is based on the FM 3-05.70 Field Manual - but now [it is a wiki](https://github.com&...

Study and remember what each letter signifies because some day you may have to make the word work for you. It takes much more than the knowledge and skills to build shelters, get food, make fires, and travel without the aid of standard navigational devices to live successfully through a survival situation. Some people with little or no survival training have managed to survive life-threatening circumstances. Some people with survival training have not used their skills and died. A key ingredient in any survival situation is the mental attitude of the individual involved. Having survival skills is important; having the will to survive is essential. Without a desire to survive, acquired skills serve little purpose and invaluable knowledge goes ...

To use the [Apps](Apps) on your phone you need power. Power can also provide you with light and empower you in many other ways. But the power-grid and outlets might not be available. In the early days of this app "you will not be able to read it as you have no power" ( anonymous commentator ) was the most common critic on this app. Hence I created this section to address this problem. Methods to generate power Solar There are [Solar USB chargers](SolarUSBCharger). Harvesting the power of the sun is a great and very clean way to generate power. There are only 2 real drawbacks for this kind of power: * it is not available at night * the ou...

Survival planning is nothing more than realizing something could happen that would put you in a survival situation and, with that in mind, taking steps to increase your chances of survival. Preparation means preparing yourself and your survival kit for those contingencies that you have in your plan. Prepare yourself by making sure your immunizations and dental work are up-to-date. Break in your boots and make sure that the boots have good soles and water-repellent properties. Study the area, climate, terrain, and indigenous methods of food and water procurement. You should continuously assess data, even after the plan is made, to update ...

A survival plan is dependent on three separate but intertwined parts to be successful: planning, preparation, and practice. Survival planning is nothing more than realizing something could happen that would put you in a survival situation and, with that in mind, taking steps to increase your chances of survival. It can happen to anyone, anywhere, anytime, so remember: failure to plan is a plan to fail . Plans are based on evasion and recovery (E&R) considerations and the availability of resupply or emergency bundles. You must take into consideration the mission duration and the distance to friendly lines; the environment, to include the ...

Even the smallest survival kit, if properly prepared, is invaluable when faced with a survival problem. When the situation arises you might not be able to just buy what you need - so it is good to have some essentials for these cases. SURVIVAL KITS The environment is the key to the types of items you will need in your survival kit. How much equipment you put in your kit depends on how you will carry the kit. A kit carried on your body will have to be smaller than one carried in a vehicle. Keep the most important items on your body. For example, your map and compass ( also in the form of [Apps] on your phone ) should always be on your bod...

A phone can be a versatile tool when you install and use the right apps. Maps / Navigation Have a solution that can work offline like [osmand](http://osmand.net). Download the data for your area and other areas that might be needed. Also try it out offline - e.g. in flight mode. Appstore / Fdroid Google-Play might not work - in [fdroid](http://fdroid.org) you can point to alternative repositories. When using the default repository you can also be pretty sure the app is libre/[FOSS](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_and_open-source_software) - as are all apps mentioned here. Also learn how to i...

/* Figure 4-1. Jaw Thrust Method */
Foremost among the many problems that can compromise your survival ability are medical problems resulting from unplanned events, such as a forced landing or crash, extreme climates, ground combat, evasion, and illnesses contracted in captivity. Many evaders and survivors have reported difficulty in treating injuries and illness due to the lack of training and medical supplies. For some, this led to capture or surrender. Survivors have related feelings of apathy and helplessness because they could not treat themselves in this environment. The ability to treat yourself increases your morale and aids in your survival and eventual return to ...

Survival Manual: Chpt 5 - Shelter

/* Figure 5-1. Poncho Lean-to */
A shelter can protect you from the sun, insects, wind, rain, snow, hot or cold temperatures, and enemy observation. It can give you a feeling of well-being and help you maintain your will to survive. In some areas, your need for shelter may take precedence over your need for food and possibly even your need for water. For example, prolonged exposure to cold can cause excessive fatigue and weakness (exhaustion). An exhausted person may develop a "passive" outlook, thereby losing the will to survive. Seek natural shelters or alter them to meet your needs, therefore, saving energy. A common error in making a shelter is to make it too large....
