Why is the Starchild skull so different from all the skulls?

Discovered in Mexico in the 1930s, the Starchild skull still represents an enigma to scholars. Since 1999 the unusual skull has been subjected to a series of anatomical and biological analyzes which have definitively excluded that it is the skull of a human individual suffering from some deformity. There are those who hypothesize that it could be an ancient human species not yet known and those who believe that the Starchild could be the skull of a human-alien hybrid.

Why is the Starchild skull so different from all the skulls?
In archaeology, when an unknown object is discovered, the first investigations carried out by scholars aim to establish its provenance. This, obviously, is a very important and delicate phase because it helps to understand if you are dealing with a fake. However, modern science, with its method and tools, has made it almost impossible to simulate a relic like that of the Starchild skull. Even if the provenance of this curious skull is not entirely clear, the fact remains that it exists and is real, and to date there is no explanation that can reveal its nature. The history of the Starchild begins in 1930. It was in that year that an Ameri...

The third structure inside the pyramid of Chichen Itza

The Mayan temple of Kukulkán is like a Matryoshka doll: a third structure is hidden inside it. The second inner shell had been discovered in the 1930s.

The third structure inside the pyramid of Chichen Itza
One pyramid inside another, and then another: the temple of Kukulkan, in the archaeological site of Chichen Itza (in the Yucatan peninsula) hid a third pyramid inside the first two. It's like a Matryoshka doll! The pre-Columbian pyramid, 30 meters high, actually hid inside a second pyramid, 20 meters high; inside the latter there is a further 10-metre pyramid. The temple honoring Kukulkán, the feathered serpent god, was built as a system of Russian dolls, presumably in three phases: the latest discovered smaller and innermost pyramid between 550 and 800; the intermediate one, between 800 and 1000; the external one between 1050 and 130...

The Mystery of Homo Erectus' Maritime Mastery

Archaeologists debate whether Homo Erectus possessed language and sailed to remote islands. New analysis calls the theory into question. Some claim evidence of maritime mastery based on tools and collaboration.

Homo Erectus
Archaeologists are currently debating whether our most enigmatic ancestors possessed language. Some believe that traces of an extinct human species on remote islands suggest the ability to build boats and sail, skills that require advanced communication. However, a new analysis has identified significant gaps in this theory, concluding that the idea doesn't hold up. Homo Erectus appeared in the archaeological record about 2 million years ago, spreading across Eurasia before disappearing just over 100,000 years ago. It has been hypothesized that this species reached islands such as Flores in the Indian Ocean and Crete in the Mediterran...

Fossil of what could be the largest marine reptile to ever exist
The newly identified species, described in a study published in the journal PLOS ONE (https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0300289), is an ichthyosaur, a group of extinct marine reptiles that somewhat resemble modern dolphins. Ichthyosaurs inhabited the world's oceans between about 250 million and 90 million years ago. Although their existence coincides with the age of dinosaurs, they are not dinosaurs. Dubbed Ichthyotitan severnensis , this newly described species is estimated to have reached enormous proportions, perhaps measuring 25 meters in length, which is comparable to the size of some blue whales. However more ...

The mysterious Mehrgarh amulet from 6000 years ago

The mysterious amulet from 6,000 years ago found in a tomb in the archaeological site of Mehrgarh, in Pakistan, has begun to 'speak': 'interrogated' it revealed step by step the method used to its manufacture, which was found to be extremely sophisticated for its time.

The Mehrgarh amulet
“The past is the key to the present.” This scientific maxim generally means that the laws of nature in the ancient world still operate exactly today. The same goes for technologies, and a 6,000-year-old amulet that looks like a rusty provides a rather curious story that spans millennia. Discovered by archaeologists in Mehrgarh (Pakistan), the amulet was handed over to a team of physicists who decided to take a closer look at the corrosion covering the sickly green surface. They noted that it emits various frequencies of electromagnetic radiation due to a oxidation of copper. Luminescence analysis revealed that the amulet would have been b...

The Tutankhamuns dagger
Egyptian iron objects are very few, because the ancient Egyptian civilization had not developed iron metallurgy and there were no quarries. Thus, it was considered more precious than gold. In 2016, with the use of the X-ray fluorescence technique, scientists have confirmed the iron of the blade of Tutankhamun's dagger comes from space. The metal is of meteoric origin. What was written on a ancient Egyptians papyrus, "an iron that rained from the sky" seems therefore true. Everything begins with the discovery of an ancient crater caused by the impact of a meteorite. The crater is the Kamil Crater initially discovered in 2008 by Vincenz...
