[The basenote asks me to tell more about the Appletalk board for the ST].

Really, it's a bit preliminary. Right now, with a board that we have,
we can print to an Apple LaserWriter from Spectre (Mac) mode, and coexist
on a network with a Mac II. We've not yet tried fancier network things;
getting the Apple LaserWriter printing means good things are working.

However, there are things to be done and added, PC boards to be made,
packaging, et all. I'd expect many moons of delay before it finally ships;
we want it to *work* without any hassles.

This board should also allow *high* speed networking amongst ST's,
provided someone will write some driver software. It sure beats the 31K buad
of the SGS net... Appletalk is up at around 230Kbaud, I believe.

So, it opens up all sorts of intersting possibilities.

Again -- this is not going to be ready for quite some time. We've
asked for a few design changes to help make MIDI possible, since we're 90%
there anyway with this board, and that rev of the board is not done, though
close.

Anyway, that's what's going on. I'd appreciate it if no one tried to
get in a "first order"; it will be *months* before we'll accept any.

Hi, I am interested to be on the distribution list for the
INFO-ATARI16 digest. Can you tell me what does it take to do that ?
Your early reply is very appreciated. Thank you.
best regards,
Arthur

Is it just me or does anyone else feel like mailing the
words 'Piss off!' to the people that post 'help' or
'unsuscribe' to the news group.

Of course maybe I'm stupid and there's a valid reason
for it.

I own a harddrive with ICD hardware and software.
After a long time without any problems I now get an error-message once in a
while.
The ICD harddisk-driver says SENSE $16 or SENSE $17 in the top-line of
my desktop.
Who knows what this message means and if I'll get into trouble reading my
data from the drive ????

Hope to get any answeres 'cause I don't know what to do ...

Chris

I used to live in Allentown, PA about 5 years ago when the ST first
came out. Our local club (ABE's ACES) did not condone pirating. I
moved to Philly area and found the Philly Area Comp. Society (PACS)
which had an Atari ST Sig after about 2 years of looking. Although
some of the members pirated software, no trading was done at club
meetings.

In the meantime, I had visited 3 clubs in the south jersey (Philly
suburb really) area. Each had a club meeting which consisted of a demo
of a pirated piece of software. "Uh I'm not really sure how to ....,
as I don't have any docs for this." was a real common expression heard
during those demos. After this demo, a flurry of disk coppying
activity occured around the 2 or 3 machines present. I only attended
1-2 meetings at each. When I remarked on the number of people copying
software, I was told the same thing. "It doen't make a difference,
no-one will be hurt." Well, I can tell you that the 2 stores which
sold Atari software (1 of which had the machines also) are no longer
in business. However the store on the other side of the river in
Philly moved on to sell megas and lots of Atari h/w (at least until
Atari started their latest round of stupid dealer disinsentive
programs, but that's another story.)

YES, also multiple mouse clicks as menus drop ...

1) how about a problem with EventMulti (as a first guess)
(new interupt while processing first one)
- comes back to previously suggested problem of spending too long
in an interrupt - because of two interrupts ???
else,
2) how does keyboard uP react to interrupts when already handling one ?

fairly easy to check which is at fault :
put a hardware monitor (scope, monostable with LED) on the serial data
to the 6850 in the ST, look for transitions when the Phantom is typing.

Presumably the long delay bewteen keystrokes is caused by a counter
getting out of the expected range, and then having to wrap round.

i.e., suppose a buffer is being emptied (until 'low-water mark' is reached)
if an equality test is missed due to interleaving interrupts, the counter
will have to wrap round (via 64k/.../...) to reach equality.

The cure may be as simple as changing an equality test
for an `equal or less than' test. (somewhere!)

probably totally wrong, just my best guess to date.

Tim,

It's a pity you can't see the genuine concern for the health of the ST I
displayed in the first message through your emotion.

>Even though the first part of the above statement is for the most part true, I

This "attitude" is is derived from finding Diamond Back on no less than 20
BBS's within 3 months of it's initial release.

I dislike losing hard earned money through software theft. If someone came
into your home and stole your TV and then you saw it at the flea market
wouldn't you get upset?? I dislike the tone of your response because I have
made positive contributions to the ST community. If you can't handle that
then you should just BE QUIET.

>Hm, a disgruntled (but obviously otherwise gainfully employed) developer, eh?

Well, a man's got to eat.

Hey, this line of discussion is counter productive. Flame off ok?
