Our newsfeed's been interrupted recently, so I've only just seen the
replies to Chuck Schul's posting. I didn't see Chuck's original
posting (things sometimes get lost here when we run out of inodes), and
I've forgotten which contribution of mine he was responding to. But
just in case any false associations are being made, let me state:

- I very much appreciate the contributions Allan Pratt (and Ken
B. and occasional others) makes to the Atari newsgroups.

- I understand why he doesn't comment on product release policy
and lots of other things which are outside his responsibility.

We all know that some of Atari's policies are, well, less than
wonderful. But the vast majority of us know that this is not the fault
of the Atari folk who interact with us on the net. I hope Chuck Schul
now knows that too.

Yes, you can do CD-I development from Suns, Macintoshs, CD-I players (early
models have been available for several years now to developers), or any
system running OS-9 (including your ST). My latest information is that
CD-I will be introduced in selected US markets and retailers this October.

Yes, Philips will be providing Super Famicom (16-bit Nintendo) games on
CD-I disc for use with your CD-I player. I think, in time, that CD-I will
be a smash. Keep in mind, both CD Audio and VCR's took three-or-so years
to take off.

Disclaimer: My company produces the operating system CD-I is based upon as
well as CD-I titles and development tools.

like those Xircom thingies on the PC...
Please email me since I don't read this newsgroup much...thanx

To: Info-Atari16@naucse.cse.nau.edu

Hello ATARI community !

I'm looking for somebody who have a ATARI ST, Mega ST or whatever
with TOS 1.4 in ROM. If you have this version of ROM, please tell me !
I have written a very simple program to dump the content of the ROM
onto a floppy disk.

If you agree to help me I will send you a floppy containing this small
program, you will just have to run it (it takes 30 senconds to complete)
and send the floppy back to me (or may be transfer it via network).

My eternal thanks to anybody who could help me !

I would think twice before doing this. Unless French law is drastically
different from American law, the code in the ROM chips is protected by
copyright law.

Nothing personal, dude, but what you are doing is advocating piracy
in the most blunt terms. If you want TOS 1.4, BUY IT - if you could
afford a computer, surely you can afford this moderate upgrade. Copying
TOS (and possibly dumping TOS for that matter) is kinda ILLEGAL, ya know?
I'm sure Atari, who OWNS TOS would not be too thrilled with this
suggestion of yours, and since you posted your name/address in that
message, they know right where to send a very FRIENDLY warning.

So have some class and make it simple - shell out the $89 or so
(whatever it is in francs) and BUY IT. It's relatively painless,
and doesn't screw over Atari and the limited following it has, ok?

I believe you can do that via ViewGIF 1.2, which should be available

Hope this helps...

Subject: VIDEO GAME RATINGS BALLOT [ATARI]
To: Info-Atari16@naucse.cse.nau.edu

To use this ballot, just hit "R". Once in your editor, insert your game
rating between the word "vote" and the system code and game title. Your
rating must be an integer between 1 and 10. There must be at least one
blank on either side of your rating. Make sure the word vote appears at
the start of each rating.

If you do not want to rate a particular game, just DELETE THAT LINE FROM
THE BALLOT. When you are finished, SAVE THE FILE, and exit the editor.
The votes will be sent to the game rating tabulator.

The general guideline for ratings is:

8-10 worth buying at full price
6-7 worth buying at a discount, or if you're particularly interested
in this kind of game
3-5 only worth renting
2 only worth playing for free, and only for a few minutes
1 worthless

If you want to vote for additional games, just add them at the end, in
a format similar to the existing entries. Be sure to include the system
code right before the title. This code is one of the below:

AL = Atari Lynx AM = Commodore Amiga
GB = Nintendo Game Boy GG = Sega Game Gear
GS = Apple II GS MA = Apple Macintosh
NE = Nintendo NES and Famicom NG = SNK NeoGeo
PC = IBM PC, PS/2, and compatibles SG = Sega Genesis and MegaDrive
SF = Nintendo Super Famicom ST = Atari ST
TG = NEC TurboGrafx-16, TurboExpress,
and PC Engine

Thanks for participating in the rec.games.video ratings poll. (This
text was adapted from Chuck Musciano's rec.arts.movies ballots and John
Leo's rec.games.video ballots.)

In this list, games have been rated on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the
best and 1 being the worst. For each game, the total number of votes,
the average rating, and the vote distribution are shown. New games are
indicated by a "*" before their entry. If a "(C)" appears after the
title it means that the game is a CD-ROM or disc system title. If a
"(J)" appears after the title it means that the game is currently only
available in Japan.

The general guideline for ratings is:

8-10 worth buying at full price
6-7 worth buying at a discount, or if you're particularly interested
in this kind of game
3-5 only worth renting
2 only worth playing for free, and only for a few minutes
1 worthless

The vote distribution uses a single character to represent the
percentage of votes for each ranking. The following character codes can
appear:

"." no votes cast "3" 30-39% of the votes "7" 70-79% of the votes
"0" 1-9% of the votes "4" 40-49% of the votes "8" 80-89% of the votes
"1" 10-19% of the votes "5" 50-59% of the votes "9" 90-99% of the votes
"2" 20-29% of the votes "6" 60-69% of the votes "*" 100% of the votes
