Piazza dell'Anfiteatro a Lucca è una piazza insolita. È stata creata dalle rovine di un anfiteatro romano costruito nel II secolo, che poteva ospitare circa 10.000 persone. L'attuale forma ovale della piazza rispecchia il profilo dell'anfiteatro originale, conferendogli un'atmosfera storica unica. Nel XIX secolo, l'architetto Lorenzo Nottolini ridisegnò l'area riportandola allo stato attuale, con l'obiettivo di mantenere la struttura dell'anfiteatro rendendolo adatto all'uso moderno, convertendolo in un vivace spazio pubblico pieno di caffè e negozi.
