the autumns just played here in houston and it was a wonderful show...one of
the best i ever saw....they closed the show with garlands by the ctwins and
during their song "pale" as it calmed down to almost a close the lead singer
matthew started singing "you say love and it sounds so sweet, you saw love and
it sounds so good"
brilliant show
i know some of you dont like them but it was great

by the way junior varsity the techno one is remixing the autums

i found a bootleg of all the eps at some site, but its a bootleg
and i *really* don't wanna buy it. does anyone know where i can possibly
find a copy of blueday? i've been looking for 2 years now.

Good luck. You can find them now and again but it is very difficult. I would
go with the boot especially since you get all the bsides and not just the
smattering on blue day

I know I'm going to get a lot of people after me with this one, but I
would advice you _not_ to buy the boot. As Rachel and Neil themselves
have said on the list before - the boot is only made for making money
off of their work, and they'd much rather see you copy someone else's
copies of the singles/blue day.

On that note - and as my doctor say I can work a bit with keyboards again
(yaay... heh) - I recently received word from Rachel regarding the rumored
Ryko Slowdive box. She had asked Neil about it and apparently he knows
about this as well. Though no one has contacted them about it (yet - or
maybe they don't have to as Creation owns their material) so he wasn't
sure when it was going to be released. He promised to let the list know
as soon as he knows more about it.

Mojave 3 news will be posted as soon as possible - the band is
currently in negotiation with 4AD about the release schedule for the
new singles and the new album.

Well, with the Galaxie 500 box set (buy it if you don't have it), Ryko gave
us an "Uncollected" Galaxie 500 disc. Let's hope they do the same for
Slowdive. I for one would not mind hearing studio versions of "Bleed",
"Joy", ect. If they do go ahead with the release, they probably will, as a
lot fo Slowdive fans already have everything. They've got to do something
to get us to buy it.

Wow, that's a lot easier said then done. Finding the cd singles on this boot
is nearly impossible. It took me years to track these down. God knows I'd
LOVE to see Slowdive make lots of money off of their works and remain
Slowdive and continue to make their wonderful music but they didn't so their
material is really inacessible. Shit there are ways to make this stuff
available to the public and perhaps make a little money. Look at the Cure
site. They are making rare material available through their website. Why
can't Slowdive do this? Also, look at the marketing strategy behind Blue
Day. Why did they only release some bsides from the singles? If they wanted
to make the material easily available a comprehensive compilation like the
bootleg would have been the answer. Slowdive sanctioned putting mp3s of a
concert online recently. Why not the rest of the material? I want the band
to succeed as much as anyone but if they don't help us get the material then
I'm gonna get it however I can. Money isn't the issue it's the music. So I
heartily disagree with your reasons for not buying the bsides compilation.
If you love the music and the band you will love the bootleg.
Ok, that said does anyone know what is supposed to be on this SLowdive
boxset?

Because Slowdive does not own their material. Creation/Sony does.
Creation could make the Slowdive material available on their website
if they wanted to - but they won't, because they're only in it for
the money. And seeing that Ryko will (very probably) release this
box, Creation has probably sold the rights (or at least some of it)
to Ryko, which in turn means they will make the rare material
available. And make money off of it at the same time.

But that wasn't the meaning behind Blue Day. If they wanted to release
Blue Day commercially, they would have, as you say, probably included
all the b-sides, and released it world wide. But they didn't, because
it was released as a limited edition one-time-only (actually, two-time
counting the US Souvlaki 2CD ltd ed.) record. This is nothing new.
Bands and record companies do this all the time.

Something I expected someone to say sooner or later. "You gave me a dollar,
why not your life savings?" That scene in the park from the movie "Falling
Down" where Michael Douglas gives the guy his briefcase comes to mind...

The band has split up, and they're not going to succeed more than they
once did. They have nothing to do with bringing you the material these
days. Creation/Sony do.

Money isn't the point for Slowdive either. It's the basic ethics behind
it all. You _don't_ just take someone else's work, things, material,
whatever, and sell it, give it away, publish it (or whatever you want to do
with it) without the owner's permission/consent. Well, maybe you do, but I
sure don't.

Wow. This is truly amazing news, an effort by the record companies to
finally appease the appetites of music fans. If Ryko actually pulls
this thing off, I'll be wildly impressed. But what really amazed me is
the lack of responses to this message. I mean, this is huge news and we
should celebrate!

It's the guy who took the Slowdive discography made by me and a load of
other people, and made it into his own Slowdive website. And added "credits"
after someone reminded him that someone else had done all the work.
Man, this really rings a bell, doesn't it? ;)

Anyway, the site used to be found at:

i'm surprised this hasn't popped up.. i'm sure lots of you are 4ad fans as well
and know about anakin, which has hope blister covering "dagger." i think it's
horrible. it wouldn't be so bad except i think the vocalist is horrible. i hate
that dramatic deep gothy woman sound.

That's the main page, i believe. Yes, i confess to buying that boot from
him. I don't particularly like the fact that he's making money off of it,
but he did have to pay for the CD-recordable drive.
heck, if Slowdive had an address to send a check to for royalties,
i would do it. i mean, i bought it illegally, and i'd definitely like to
pay the band (sorta like shareware software i suppose). Unfortunately,
buying the boot was much cheaper, and *infinitely* faster than finding all
these.

As much as i dislike having to buy the boot, i did.
If Rachel sent me an address to send a check and a letter of
appreciation, i would.

If I remember my Slowdive interviews, I think that Blueday was actually
Creation's idea, to expose the material to audiences who didn't have access
to the original EP's.

Aha! I just got Anakin in the mail today, so I haven't had the time to listen
to it yet, but a cover of Dagger sounds interesting (at least). I'll listen
to it tonight...

If that was their meaning, I can't understand why they didn't include
"Golden Hair" and "Avalyn II"? I can understand Catch The Breeze being
left out, as it is included on JFAD, but not the other two. Someone
on the list with connections to Creation?

No, there's no point in doing that. If Creation/Sony wanted to bother with
it, I suppose they would have done that by now (if they know about it that
is). IMO it's not up to us.
