I'm a bit ashamed to admit this, but I have never seen a Slowdive video
ever (well, perhaps 1/2 of Morningrise once)! Does anyone have them
recorded, and would be willing to make a trade? My vcr can handle NTSC,
though only in black/white, so I would prefer PAL, if someone have them
in that format?

I just have to express my joy here - this autumn will be the *best* damn
autumn in years! _Curve_ back together again with a single and an album and
a tour! _The Charlatans_ release a single in about a week and an album later
this year, _Mojave 3_ comes to Sweden and will release a couple of singles
this year with an album to be released in March next year, _Catherine Wheel_
release a b-side compilation album...

Now lets just hope that we'll see Verve (Superstar or whatever they call
themselves these days) coming out with some new stuff, Adorable get back
together again, Ride realise their mistake and do the same, My Bloody
Valentine release that album, and Slowdive release their played, but never
released songs. Then I would seriously believe I had died and gone to heaven!

Can you say "Yaaaay!"?

Rachel recently sent some e-mail regarding My Bloody Valentine which she
thought would be interesting to all of us (and it sure is!) as well as
some more info regarding their contact address (with all of them moving
house at the moment). Well, here it is [edited]:

* Just thought I would forward some gossip about MBV that I'm sure many people
* will be interested to hear about!
*
* I went to see The Divine Comedy on saturday, and Kevin Shields was there. I
* haven't seen him literally for three years, so I was quite surprised! I asked
* him what is happening and he said that Debbie & Colm are no longer involved
* in the band and it's just him and Belinda.
*
* They have had two advances from Island and have to deliver some songs by
* November; he said he hasn't really written anything yet! So that should be
* interesting. The last time I saw him he said the same thing. So 3 years on,
* he hasn't got any further....I know they've had trouble with the studio they

I read recently that Debbie was asked to be the new bassist for Elastica but
turned it down (whew!) because of her previous commitment to Snowpony and
her girlfriend (?!)

greetings to everyone out there who worships at the shrine of slowdive.
i'm from singapore so we don't find many people into shoegazers. we were
all big fans of indie bands and i remember the looks on our faces when we
heard the first slowdive, ride and chapterhouse records. our lives have
never been the same since.

'pygmalion' is just absolutely brilliant despite what the music press
says. i guess it was only natural for neil halstead to take slowdive into
that direction.

as i've mentioned, i'm from singapore so we don't get to see ANY bands at
all so all you lucky bastards who have seen slowdive or mojave live please
e-mail me and tell me of your heavenly experience. the closest i've ever
got to rachel is via e-mail.

I agree - it is rather wonderful! I just picked it up about a month ago
through mailorder - expensive, but well worth it! Blue Skied an' Clear is
a WONDERFUL song! My favorite off the album! But for anyone who hasn't
gotten it, don't hesitate to pick it up!
I also have a question - I have seen in vinyl ink some used copies of
3 EPs - the Slowdive EP, the Morningrise EP and one other I forgot the
name of. Does anyone know what one I am talking about? It's probably the
other one which comprises Blue Day. Also, Is Avalyn 2 only available on
the Slowdive EP? Does anyone have a bunch of rarities they would like to
tape? I have Blue Day, but understand that all the tracks from the EPs are
not on there. I also have the Sunday flexi, Pygmalion, Just For a Day, and
Souvlaki. Anyone have asll the other bonus tracks they'd like to compile?

That's right. Aside from not including Avalyn 2, Blue Day also leaves out
Golden Hair from the Holding Our Breath EP.

I have the stuff and I'm sure plenty of other people on the list do to. I
mean there really isn't too much out there (unfortunately) and everything
was pretty easy to find if you bought it when it was released. I wouldn't
mind taping all of it if the following conditions are met.

1. Someone (probably Erik) asks Rachel what she thinks about it.
There is no way I'd even consider doing it if she didn't like the idea,
and neither should anyone else.

2. Someone besides me organizes everything. I did something similar for
another list and ended up spending hours just getting a list of people
together and working out the details. I don't want to go through that
again.

3. Umm, can't think of anything else. If this happens, it would be nice
if I didn't have to pay for the tape or postage since i wouldn't be
getting anything for it and I'm not a rich guy.

...or someone else who has all the stuff and has a lot of time on his/her
hands could take care of all of this. My eps are no better than anyone else's.

Glad you are willing to do it! I may be the only jerk wanting this stuff

postage, as should anyone else expecting that sort of favor outta someone.
But as for the "ethics" of it, Rachel???? What do you think?

hi daniel!

alwyn here. thanks for replying. always nice to know people who are into
slowdive. you'll probably be able to look for the slowdive discography at
their homepage but here's some info anyway.

slowdive e.p.
1. slowdive
2. avalyn
3. avalyn 2

morningrise e.p.
1. morningrise
2. she calls
3. losing today

holding our breath e.p.
1. catch the breeze
2. golden hair
3. shine
4. albatross

outside your room e.p.
1. alison
2. so tired
3. souvlaki station
4. moussaka chaos (which is a "remix" of 'souvlaki space station')

5 e.p.
1. in mind
2. good day sunshine (not the beatles!)
3. missing you
4. country rain

there's also an edition of the 5 e.p. that only contains two remixes of
'in mind'.

if you see any of these records around, buy them without hesitation!

'avalyn 2' is only on the 'slowdive' e.p. and 'blue day' doesn't contain
'golden hair' (a syd barrett cover) off the 'holding our breath' e.p.

anyhow, please tell me how slowdive's flexi (on sunday records) sounds! i
think it contains 'beach song' and one or two other songs that escape my
mind presently.

warmest regards.

Beach Song and take Me Down are the 2 songs on the flexi. they are
amazing, noize pop anthems! The flexi is outta print but you can get it
from a new mailorder service for $1.75! It's called roundabout
records and i can get you the address if you would like it. i have their
catalog and unfortunately the shipping is like $4 for any size order or
something. but they have lots of stuff worth checking out anyway.

in case anyone didn't know, blue skied an' clear can be heard on the film the
doom generation, playing over the last scene and throughout the end credits.
also, however faintly in the background, one of the songs off of just for a
day is in the movie (i can't remember which one). it's a crazy, but somewhat
interesting film that had a small theatrical release (in the u.s.) and is
available on video now. the film's director (gregg araki) is a big slowdive
fan and apparently knows neil...

Yeah, the soundtrack had "Alison" playing when the lead characters were
making out in the car. The brunette was pretty dreamy me thinks, but
the rest of the movie was kinda blah.

That song we all love so much that Mojave 3 played live on the Shaving
the Pavement tour with the lines "finding the easiest way to break your
heart..finding the hardest part is leaving" (or so I like to think) is
called "Trying to Reach You" (courtesy of Rachel..I wrote her on her
Compuserve account:O) (And I feel dumb referring to her in third person
and even speaking of her like this because I know she'll read this:O)
(or so I presume)

And I think I'll share my most recent Slowdive-products experience..I
found the Holding Our Breath e.p. for $6.99 and the In Mind remixes e.p
for $10 in California's Vinyl Fetish on Melrose:O :~)

Needless to say i snatched them up in a hurry and went home a happy

additional lyrics in there besides the regular words?

Oh, one more thing..does anyone know if that 21-string accompanied
version of Mercy ever came through?

Yeah Stella, what's up?

I'm looking to trade live Slowdive tapes. I have a great copy of the Oslo,
Norway gig that the band sold on the 1994 tour (I saw them at CBGBs when I
lived in NYC).

Also, if you get a chance to see a Projekt Records band called Love Spirals
Downwards by all means do. They did a cover of Mojave 3's "Mercy" and it was
ace. Suzanne Perry has such a great voice!

Ta,

Depends. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Usually yes. SLOWdive, remember?

I heard they changed their minds on that one, for some reason.

See, this is why the list is so quiet. Nothing is happening in slowjave
land right now. They're touring with Lisa Germano though, right?

aaron, who likes One More Time better than Trying To Reach You

P.S. Rachel, if you actually are reading this, take heed: If mojave
never records and releases Through My Sails, it will be a shame. it's the
most beautiful thing i've heard you play. A covers ep with Queen Jane,
Through My Sails, and Oh, Sister would make the world a much better place.

Subject: I Am The Elephant film

Re-post of the information / interest request about The film
"I Am The Elephant and U R The Mouse". Those of you who sent in your
interest-requests the first time do not have to do it again. I'm
only posting it again because the list has a whole bunch of new
subscribers. Here's the info again:

I Am The Elephant and U R The Mouse Film

I have recently received information from the director (Forest Wise) about
the film "I Am The Elephant and U R The Mouse" and the possibility of ordering
the film (on NTSC video tape).

I mentioned that he might find that there are a bunch of people that would
like to buy it on this mailing list, and he liked the idea. This would be
the director's cut (and not the shorter one to be released later) which
includes all the Slowdive songs written for it as well.

Here's where you can help - Forest wanted to know how many (roughly) on
the list would be interested in ordering the Director's Cut of the film
and how many of those who want it in NTSC format and how many would want
it in PAL format ( If enough people requests PAL format, he is willing to
make copies in that format as well ).

The price he mentioned would be about US $40.00 (which includes shipping
and handling), though it might be lower depending on the amount of
interested people.

* So, if you are interested - please let me know by sending e-mail to me
at: chief@lysator.liu.se

PLEASE NOTE: that by saying that you are interested, you are NOT
automatically saying that you _will buy_ a copy in the end.
Forest just want to get a rough estimate on how many that
are interested, that's all.

Another interesting piece of information regarding the company that
lies behind the film (and the new one to be made mentioned earlier)
is that Neil Halstead is a part of the company!
