What does this have to do with doom editing?

It's like a breath of fresh air to me :)

I have to agree, I can live with just making PWADs despite having tasted
more. I think we owe ID in that respect - What a medium for creativity!
However there is another side; Aliens-TC took six months of my life,
virtually all of my free time (I don't like to even think of it in terms
of hours) (what I'm saying here is personal sacrifice, and I'm hardly
alone in this) and now it may all come to nothing. In my mind, there is no
arguement, ID has the right, morally, if not legally, to have their .EXE left
alone, but in situations like mine, it hurts, to think of the waste.
When ID invited additions to doom, I didn't realise that meant "withen
limits", perhaps that is my fault, but I would appreciate the reason(s).
"Because I said so" is discouraging.

Hopefully, as I catch up with my mail, the reason may have been given.

I am on this list as an attempt to get away from people like you. Go
do something anatomically odd with youself on one of the many Doom

Why do I have to read *this* crap on the Editing list? 5 people reply to
this guy with flames, and then send it to the whole fucking group. You
bitch about a problem and then exacerbate it like this. You deserve to
have all the people with unrelated questions flooding your mailbox.

Instead of dozens of flames to the whole group, a POLITE message to the
originator would have a more productive effect in the direction you claim
is so important. What makes you think that sending this shit to us and to
him is going to prevent such offences in the future? Admit it. YOU are
merely looking for something to raise your dander so you can vent your
ire.

Amazing to me how so many smart people don't seem to be willing to THINK.

OK, so my previous one wasn't the last one. So sue me.

I talked to another one of the Id guys last night (who said he doesn't
want to be drawn into this mess, so I won't mention his name), and he
illuminated things a bit. He said that he has absolutely no qualms about
exe editing, it's fine with him, etc etc. BUT, Jay has to keep the rule
about no exe modifications for legal reasons. Apparently it's something
to do with European copyright laws, that if the exe is modifiable it's no
longer effective or something. So, the sole reason for the ban is legal,
and they really don't care about the modifying itself.
Yay!

Thought it would be ok to post a DeHackEd question after that clarifier...
If I'm wrong I'm sure somebody is just itching to f*** me with a large
piece of wood.

Has anyone actually made a dhe patch that allowed the player to use the
ArchVile attack? It would seem that this is not possible since the player's
bullets don't discriminate berween targets while the artificial stupid
specifies one target to be affected by the ArchVile attack.

A funked out effect you can do with the ArchVile flame frames is to replace
the "exploding death" frames of say, a soldier or something, with the flame
frames. When you shoot the soldier with a rocket, there'll be an enormous
column of flame, then the soldier appears to just vaporize, leaving no body.
Call it the "Environmentally Concious Kill".

Well, what I did is make the BFG's shot look like a little puff of smoke, so
it's really hard to see (there are no "invisible" sprites, are there? I don't
mean selecting 'total invisibility' - then you can't see the explosion), and
made the explosion go to, uhhh, 667 I think, FIRExx. Oh yeah, and I made the
damage about 10x more - so you fire this almost completely invisible shot at
them then they get vaporized by the shot, with the body going REALLY far
away. A quote from a net game with this patch "Where the hell did that come
from???" after having a splatered corpse fly right past him -- from the other
side of the stage!

A Heretic Editor will be available on our BBS the day after Heretic is in the
stores. (Assuming I can find one!).
