Fur Fighters NTSC US DVD Rip

This following is a tutorial on how to rip the NTSC US version of Fur Fighters. There are other tutorials about for other PAL versions but the NTSC US version seems to be a bit different. There may be easier ways to do it but this worked for me ;-) (This is a rehashed version of the Scroglis and Kopmans tutorial with extra bits tagged on for the US NTSC version).

Kopman and Scrogli sorry i borrowed your text and tutorial but it saved alot of time and you did a hell of a job made this rip easy to do all i had to do for the us version is find the checks. this was the first time i used kitbuilder always had problems nice tutorial on how to use ,thanks.

Tools needed:
DVD drive
ISOBuster
Dummy file maker
Hex editor (I use Hex Workshop)
PS2 Burning Kit V2
CDRWIN or similar

Making sure that the DVD is in the drive, create a new directory on your hard drive say c:\fur and copy the contents of the DVD to it.

Now lets start to free up some space. There are three main folders Disk0, Disk1 and Disk2. Each one of these folders has a sub directory called music. Delete all the files in each of the music directories.

Goto the Disk0 folder, there will be a folder called Demo. Delete the file called DEMO2_60.IPU. Using the Dummy file maker create a 1MB dummy file. Place it in the demo folder and rename it to demo2_60.ipu

Now here is where the main differences are between the current tutorials. This is where we change the DVD check so that the game will load from a CDR. Make sure that SLUS is not write protected otherwise you won’t be able to make the necessary change. Open up SLUS 200.88 using your hex editor. Scroll down until you find the offsets 00145c20 @ 00146584 . We need to change that so it reads 0100 0424 INSTEAD 0F 0200 0424.

Save the file and now we are ready to move on.

Open ISOBuster and make sure that the DVD drive is selected. Right click on the DVD title name and click on copy tree-info to file. Select a place to save the filelist.txt file to and remember where it is because we will need it in a bit.

Now we have to start using the PS2 Kitbuilder. I have found that using this can be a bit confusing if you have never used it before so this is the way I got it to work. Extract the PS2 Kitbuilder zip file to a folder on your hard drive say c:\kit. Move all the files/folders in the data directory to the c:\kit directory. The data folder (c:\kit\data) should now be empty.

Move all the contents of your c:\fur directory to the c:\kit\data directory.

Now run kitbuilderv2.exe
Click on the browse button (under the output dir button) and set it to c:\kit
Click on the sort file creator button and it will open up a new window.
Click on the browse button and find the locaton of the filelist.txt file we saved before.
In the files directory box just type data.
Click OK
Click on the Batch file button.
In the cd title box type fur_fighters and in the Data dir(usually data) box type data
Click OK.
Before we click on create please take note. After you click on create it may look like the program has crashed. IT HAS NOT. You will have to leave it alone for up to 20 minutes depending on the spec of your PC (if you go into program manager it says not responding ,ignore this just leave it alone). This is because the DVD contains about 4000 files and the filelist.txt file is about 60 pages and takes a while to process. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Click on create and wait
When it has finished it comes up with a box saying finished or created just click OK and close PS2 Kitbuilder.

Have a look in the c:\kit directory you will see a file called go.bat double click on it. It will now create the iso image, this can take 5-10 minutes so be patient once again. (it is better than dragging 4000 files into CD/DVD Gen trust me)

Once this has finished we can now burn the ISO image to a cd. I use CDRWIN Just make sure that when burning you choose CDROM-XA as the disk type and MODE 2 as the track mode. Once burnt you should have a working copy of the NTSC US version of Fur Fighters.
