Have you ever noticed lately how someone wants to censor something
else. Just recently Senator Exon tried to get a bill passed. The thing that
the bill would do is censor the internet. The question is why should
we be censoring stuf.
Many people in this day and age have come to believe that censorship
is the awnser to all of socioties ills. Have you ever noticed how come
Bevis and Butt Head don't say fire anymore. The reasion for this is so
stupid as well. Some little kid has a lighter, and he accidentally
burns down his own home. This kid's parents then say that he was influenced
by the cartoon Bevis and Butthead. First of all why did the parents alow
thier child to have a lighter in his possesion. Just because I see something
in a cartoon dosen't mean I'm gonna do it. After all I haven't hit anyone on
the head with a big mallet yet, or have given anyone a light explosive to
hold.
I feel what we should do instead of censoring things is educating
people. I think that education is what we should have. I mean in this
country we have rites and censorship is a violation of those rites.
It is so simple. Education is much better than censorship because it
allows people to be free thinking beings. If we just keep on censoring
things people wont have thier own thoughts.
We all know what we like and what we don't like. I rember hearing
of this case where an elderly lady gets access to a BBS. This person
goes into the files section, and procedes to read the discription of a
GIF file, and then she proceeds to download this file. Next thing the
Sysop of this board knows is that this senior citizen is sueing him.
She said that the containts of the GIF offended her. I question I ask
is why did she download the file she read the description. Now I feel
that was just a case of someone wanting to get money, but anyway my point
of this is if you don't like it DON'T DOWNLOAD IT.
In closeing I would like to say that censorship is first of all
agnise our constitution, but it is also stupid. Thanx for reading.
